From the sounds of it, if there is a kit to use for this kitbash, this is the one!😄

I agree, if I was just building a Stuka I'd be disappointed with the interior or having to spend on aftermarket

I can’t find the image but do a reverse-image search for it.

ok! Reverse image search has revealed that it was with the legion condor.

Beware of sink marks on the exterior of the Stuka kit, also. Mine had plenty in all sorts of visible places. I found fit to be excellent and I really liked the decals though.

Cool project, this! :)

thanks for the heads up, I've had a quick look and I've noticed quite a few sink marks so they'll need to be sorted as I go through, luckily as I'm making something out of my own imagination I can add patches and bits were I want.

I'm surprised as Airfix has now quite a good reputation for its "new" moulds

Instruments were painted Alkan black-grey, Alkan AMT-4 green protective or Tamiya XF-16 flat aluminium.

These were then dry brushed with XF-16.

The wires that I added and the moulded ones were painted with Mr Metal Color copper.

Various buttons and switches were picked out in white or red.

The instrument panel was left black primer and dry brushed with XF-16 and switches picked out in white and red.

48870885251_71002d97bd_c.jpg

These cockpit floor and seats were dry brushed with XF-16.

48870885491_0e357eddf9_c.jpg

Radio side panel was painted Alkan AMT-4, the radios were left black, dry brushed and the dials highlighted in red.

48870885381_75275f8c93_c.jpg

The rear of the radio cluster was dry brushed and the wires painted copper.

48871079092_4333546e20_c.jpg

I then fitted the radio.

48871079002_a3b0003014_c.jpg

I think this shows that covering the rear of the radios was worth it?

next I’ll be adding more weathering to the cockpit and then assembling it.

until next time

Tamiya panel liner dark brown was used to add detail to the cockpit area.

That work in the cockpit really paid off. Off to a cracking start!

Thanks Thom

I was a worried abut the quality of the mouldings but I'm quite happy with the way they've turned out

Surgery was required to the fuselage in order to remove the aft section and then open the rear of the cockpit to allow for the mini gun.

Firstly I joined both halves of the fuselage.

48875914991_bcc6c29b23_c.jpg

Next I used a razor saw to remove the rear of the fuselage which I will then use for one of the booms.

48876113312_61b3542af6_c.jpg

The rear of the cockpit needs to be opened.

48875381738_f26129fa40_c.jpg

Now I can see how to fit the rear bulkhead and where the mini gun will be mounted.

48875915071_a8370e7577_c.jpg

48876113057_d575143124_c.jpg

The rear bulkhead was cut down to suit, I’ll need to fill the holes.

48880510902_66232e2e5f_c.jpg

48880318386_410aedc91c_c.jpg

I’ll need to fill the gap(s) between the rear bulkhead and fuselage sides.

48879786463_db0390fc83_c.jpg

48880318411_225a8cf0d0_c.jpg

I needed to add a seat/lap belt for the radio operator/gunner, luckily I found these in the spares box, they should be for a Zero but I like the look of them here.

48880969962_4b055eab32_c.jpg

Before I closed the fuselage I wanted to check on the placement of the mini gun so I placed the magazine and realised that it would be too large.

48880777851_66ecc0f8c1_c.jpg

Thankfully the resin mini gun comes with another, smaller magazine? box.

48880969887_ffda0822db_c.jpg

I’m not going to add the mini gun at this point, I’ll think about that nearer the end of the build

next I’ll be closing cockpit and finishing the ‘front’ part.

until next time

as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received.

smaller magazine?

That could be a battery. It looks about the right size for an Aircraft battery.

If the rear seat was moved rearwards, there would be room for a custom ammunition box. (Also nearer the centre of gravity).

Then you'd need a feed track (as on WW2 bombers) up to the gun.

Just suggestions BTW, Feel free to ignore me.

Nice cockpit painting.

Nice progress! Of course we won't see the main changes until that new fuse/nacelles are all put together.

hopefully I'll get some time over the weekend and be able to close up the fuselage

Hi Pete, I think your right about it being a battery but I think I'll use it as the moulding is really nice.

I might move it back as there is plenty of feed rack/bullets supplied with the mini gun, or I might just make a ammo box as it needn't be to elaborate.

thanks for the suggestions

ha ha, thanks DC funnily enough my radio man/gunner is standing but you've now given me the image of Killroy and I'll think of that every time I look at him

The rear bulkhead was cemented in place.

48881265447_5e9a826129_c.jpg

I’ll need to close the gaps in the near future, once my Milliput arrives.

Once the fuselage and cockpit were joined, I then used the kit decals for the instrument panel.

48880246553_c493c912aa_c.jpg

Wathers Solvaset was used to snuggle the decals, it took 2 or 3 attempts to get them to fully conform, I’m guessing that these decals are not Cartograf although they are very good.

There’s a sub-assembly that needs building of the IP, rudder pedals and a glazed floor area in front of the pedals presumably to allow the pilot to see whilst dive-bombing?

48881076476_d356a58ba5_c.jpg

48881265302_fc2841b898_c.jpg

You have a choice to show this glazed area or not, I’ll make my mind up later, at the moment I’m minded to show it.

48881076421_b4c37e8625_c.jpg

The front/engine bulkhead was fitted.

48881076361_4151f3c954_c.jpg

This will be visible as I’m going to show the engine and have the boom engines covered.

next I’ll be adding the lower wing.

I like the thickness of the rear bulkhead, it makes me think of armoured plate, anyhow the gap between the rear bulkhead and the fuselage sides was filled.

48897687321_7dd4ca31f8_c.jpg

48897687261_419ee69dc8_c.jpg

I’ll need to colour the inside of the filler.

48897154518_e9fd869c46_c.jpg

The lower halves of the wings had the holes for the bomb attachments drilled and then attached to the spar.

48902617912_ae08c5aec4_c.jpg

48901884688_f02d1b4e82_c.jpg

48902617827_b876ce384e_c.jpg

The upper part of the lower wing was then added.

48902529681_d5c334f024_c.jpg

48902732017_d56f18b4f9_c.jpg

…and just because I had to, here’s the twin booms placed to give an idea of what it will look like.

48902529586_dd0cd37dd0_c.jpg

next I’ll be building the upper wing.
