Bandai's newly released Super Star Destroyer in the slightly ridiculous scale of 1/100,000. Despite the tiny scale, the model is quite large for a release in the Vehicle Model range, measuring about 19cm long, althought the slender design makes it still feel quite small. The level of detail is almost as crazy as the scale - it's hard to believe injection moulding can achieve results like this.

Painting was kept on the subtle side to avoid creating an out of scale appearence on something that's meant to be 19 km long. The build can be found here.

Excellent work indeed! I'm waiting for the 1/72nd scale version. By my calculations that should come out to about 866 feet long. Hmmm, I better start stocking up on paint.

Thanks all.

Would be nice to see a standard Star destroyer in the same scale for comparison.

At this scale a regular SD would be about 1.6cm long. I'm sure someone will make a 3D print available on shapeways, if there isn't one already.

Indeed there is:

In fact there's even a version that can be lit up:

Really pretty Andy, it looks amazing from that rear low-angle. So much detail!

Cheers Will. I think the underside is probably more detailed than the top. Shame you don't really see it much when it's on display.

Just re-create this shot in your display on a turntable, and you're good:

An excellent idea - I may have to get another, and try recreating that scene.

Superb work. I thought it was reported to be smaller at  around 10cm.

The regular Star Destroyer box scale kit is around 11cm, but at a different scale - 1/14,500

Thanks. Pity Baindai or anyone really do not do a big version. There is a two foot version to go with the Armada Star Wars Board Game. Very expensive though.

And about time someone released a TIE Bomber. Must be the only Star Wars vehicle never kitted!

Hi Andy,

That looks fantastic, looks much larger than it is in reality. Beautifully painted as usual.

You mentioned using a glaze medium, is this Vallejo 70.596 and do you thin it further with water?

Yes, that's the one. I don't often add water unless I want the effects to be very transparent. I've just been weathering a truck cab with some dark brown mixed roughly 50/50 with glaze and no further thinning with water, and the effect was fairly transparent while still showing up. That allowed me to build up dirt staining and shading with multiple layers without the effects becoming too intense.
