Fenders - and how to make them?

Recommended Posts

Hi Team

I'm curious as to whether anyone has some simple solutions to making fenders for 1/72 craft and in particular - the woven sort that appear in many wartime pictures and were common on fishing craft etc before plastic became the norm

I'm thinking of something like this...

and in reality on a D class...

I met one modeller who used cut up "Doilies", I've looked on Ebay etc but failed to find what would work

There's Thatchweave who do some specific Landing craft pieces and finally there's the prospect of trying to "crochet" some myself :nerd:

Has anyone come across an easier solution?

Thanks

Rob

Perhaps weaving some wire round a  rattan fender shaped blob of miliput

I  reckon Roger is on the right lines . . . .

That's how I made the bow/stern fenders for the tug

Use tube with say 0.5mm cord wrapped around. Milliput used for ends and securing rope to suspend them.

Thachweave models might be worth a look

I heard about them on the scale model podcast ep. 22 Kim Taylor. If I remember rightly she was fed up with the terrible plastic fenders in kits and having yarn skills decided to make her own and then sell them. Hope it helps.

Thanks - I have emailed them to see if they will "rescale" their 1/35 fenders but I've heard nothing back from them for over a week :waiting:
