tomthounaojam
Hi Guys, Here is my recent built, the Hasegawa P-38J Lightning in 370th FG, 485TH FS, Maj. Sabo 1944. The kit is bit dated however, it is was a gift from a good friend Eghui Chew. So, I started last week and thought this will be fairly simple build. However, it was the biggest challenge was the Canopy, the molding must has aged and the details was less while masking and tracing it i cut my finger. It was very difficult to traced it as line was almost invisible and also aligning with cockpit was also a daunting task at first it look alright but later I found there was a gap of .01-02mm and fix those at curved join was more harder than filing typical big gaps. Other than the build was smooth, for paint I use a new black coat for me, Mr. Finishing Surfacer 1500 black as base and it work like a charm and for silver I use Gunze silver and tamiya and panel modulations with little addition of different colors mostly black. It was tail heavy even after putting more weight on the nose and engine so I did a trick photography to look it is nose heavy. Hope you like what I have done with the kit. Thank you for looking and any feedback are welcome Cheers
Greg Law
I really like a P38. You've done an excellent build. Even more so in 1/72.

Mark4700
Excellent. Quite a rare bird on here in that scale.
72modeler
Not an easy kit to build, especially in metal finish, but you have done a very nice job with this one! The real airplane had two heavy Allisons and guns and ammunition up front to balance it on its undercart, but that's not the case with a plastic model! Thank you, Greg even if i want to do a 48 or even larger scale due to limited space I have to stick to 72 only 19 hours ago, Vinnie said: Very nicely done, Tom. 👍 Thanks, Mate 18 hours ago, Mark4700 said: Excellent. True, there are many P-38 out there in 72 most of them are legacy era kit, however I hear there is a new one RS Model can't say about the kit as I haven't built any RS model kit yet. Thank you, Mark. 9 hours ago, 72modeler said: Not an easy kit to build, especially in metal finish, but you have done a very nice job with this one! Learstang
Excellent work on that Lightning! Interestingly, the Soviets actually got ahold of one and tested it for night fighting, I believe. I have the decals for it, somewhere. It was probably a P-38 abandoned during one of the Shuttle Raids from Italy into the Soviet Union. Aircraft the Americans abandoned as uneconomical to repair the Soviets were only too willing to repair, including up to 16 B-17s abandoned on Soviet soil.
