Rickoshea52
The side console decals are very basic but will do if the canopy will be closed. I would recommend waiting for the inevitable Eduard etch set or resin if you want super detail.
Hooded Claw
Thanks for that, I appreciate your advice. I really should wait, but I've got itchy fingers, especially after seeing your build - looks really good!
RobertLockie
Hannants is now listing an Eduard set, including colour cockpit parts. The kit’s black outline decals on a MSG background look hugely unconvincing to me compared to photographs of the real thing, so it’s that or scratchbuilding panels for me. Rickoshea52
Put some paint in this now. I wasn’t keen on the DG/DSG over light grey to start with and it was tricky getting the masking right with a few errors to correct along the way. The light aircraft grey underside doesn’t quite look correct but the colour codes match the Xtradecal paint guide. I’ve also varnished it with Pledge floor polish but I never ever the really high gloss finish with it. Decals next.
Rickoshea52
Decals on tonight. I used the Xtradecal roundels and markings with Mig Ammo setting solutions. It occurred to me that the stencils on the kit decal sheet might not be suitable for an RAF Buccaneer and it appears that is the case, especially for the no step lines over the top of the engines - many of the stencils are white and the no step lines should be red as far as I can see. Additionally, the engine fire fighting break in panels should be a red outlined square when the decal versions are a white square with red outline, I’ve had a rummage in my spares and can’t find an alternative. Anyway, I’ve left these to set and will do more during the week but I won’t be adding too many more decals.
Hewy
Looking good rick 👍, great heads up on the stencils, hadn't thought of that, I'll have to look in the old airfix boxing and hope they're of use
Lord Riot
Looking good! Is that paler upper grey the same as for the early camo V-bombers? Edited April 19, 2020 by Lord Riot
Rickoshea52
More decals added tonight. After searching all my other kit decals and spares I just had to bite the bullet and use the kit fire break in panel decals. Much time was also spent looking at lots of photos online of Buccaneers which revealed that the kit supplied yellow no step decals over the engines can be used on this colour scheme after all. When all the setting solution has dried a coat of varnish will follow
Rickoshea52
Close to the finishing line now. In a change of plan I’m going to use the kit bombs painted as practice/inert weapons painted using VMA faded PRU blue with a few drops of dark sea blue added to get a shade close to the real thing
SAT69
The build is coming along beautifully. Maybe it's just me, but does anyone else think the kit's recessed panel lines are heavy?

Rickoshea52
I think this is just about done, the only thing missing is the grab handles for the ejection seats, I made the rookie error of fitting them early on then broke them off and only retrieved one of them. Ill take some better photos in the daylight and post them in the RFI section.
