The excitement is mounting, for sure. I just found the attached of yours truly prepping for another TAC Demo. IIRC this was for the 47 Sqn Families Day one Saturday afternoon in 1984 and given that the crew were from the same Squadron they wanted to put on an even more spectacular show including that infamous 'Khe San' approach sequence. I cannot believe it was over 36 years ago !.

Hopefully this will provide some inspiration for those wanting to portray a representative load.

That's very useful too! Any more would be gratefully received. A nice diecast Landy would cover up most of the floor detail I suppose...but then again a Jeep would be even better....

How about a pallet with miscellaneous boxes, covered by a tarp, netting and straps?! Plonk that at the rear of the floor by the ramp and you’re sorted.

 

I speak with the knowledge of someone that knows absolutely nowt of such things btw.......

I don't have a name...sorry. The very nice lady proprietor speaks some English although her mother tongue is Estonian/Russian but she was able to confirm Zvedza will deliver on Wednesday, given our proximity to Russia.

I’ve flown in Hercs a few times with a Twin Huey in the back, on one occasion as soon as we took off I released my seat belt and crawled in the back of the Huey. There was a nice mattress on the floor. I had a great sleep.

Done something similar to Scooby.... coming back from Malta, (First trip overseas), by Herc ( first Herc flight) I travelled back asleep in the back of a Ford Escort Mk 1.... most comfortable Herc trip ever....

I saw a few cars get transported in the good ole days. And lobster deliveries every Thursday to two specific locations, what fun we had.
 

There was also a good spot to sleep at the top of the upper ramp door, right by one of the heat ducts. Just make sure the loadie didn’t forget you were there. 😃

Really, the sky is the limit (pardon the pun) as far as loads go. I think I said earlier in this thread, beer, Christmas trees, food, multiple different vehicles, you name it. I think that with a cargo aircraft, the fun part is the load. Deciding on what to put in there is the hard part. And in this case interior lighting would really make it pop, red or white. I am leaning towards a full compliment of 92 personnel, full crew in the cockpit (Zvezda for some reason have omitted the flight engineer, a very necessary crew member!).

With the personnel seated, you will be able to see all the way to the forward bulkhead. I need to source some aftermarket webbing seats, if they exist. Also motorized and electronic sound, with background crew call outs during the start sequence (one of my favourite line crew duties was being hooked up on the headset, watching for anomalies). The former has been a plan of mine for decades, just didn’t look forward to create an accurate C-130 out of the Airfix and Italeri kits. The Zvezda C-130 has given me the kick in the bottom I needed! It is really ironic that a Russian company has produced an accurate kit of an aircraft not used by them (military), but most NATO countries and many others.

BTW, the dry bay access panels on the top of the wing behind #1 and #4 are the E style. If you are doing an H, they should be the same oval shape as #2 and #3, clearly visible in this photo of our first H.

I see that things are coming along swimmingly with the new Zvezda C-130. Some nice aftermarket photo etch and resin and some nice decals.

 I just received my decal sheet from 26 Decals about a half an hour ago. 10 days from Lowestoft to Victoria BC is nothing short of remarkable, in the current world situation! I ordered them directly from 26, and Ray delivered. They are beautiful! Very precise registration, very tight carrier film (I can’t even see any on the roundels etc. A very small amount on the letters and numerals is unavoidable. I really appreciate the red white red propeller tips, this will save a lot of time and effort required to mask and paint them. Many thanks to Ray at 26Decals for this excellent decal set. If you are considering this set, you might want to grab one while you can, I expect these will sell out fast.

I remember it well.......The upper ramp was good but you did always have to worry about the Loadie remembering you were there 😬. I always found the top of a baggage stack with a 'worm' (service issue sleeping bag) was good too. We were always motivated to build a good stack with some of the softer bags at the top to provide the extra cushioning......only problem then was making sure it wasn't too adjacent to the cabin heating ducts...always easier on the C Mk.3 since the lengthened fuselage made for better heat dissipation anyway.   

 

Looking forward to collecting my first Zvedza kit in person from my LMS tomorrow evening on the way home. I think this first one will be the one I did a memorable Exercise 'Red Flag' sortie in back in '85. We had the observation bubble re-fitted and cargo nets rigged over the rear para doors so the loadmaster and supernumary crew could act as additional observers as the 'guys up in the front' did their best to hug the valley floors and hills evading the 'Red Air' F-5s and F-15s. I had done quite a few TAC demos by then but the Red Flag sorties were a whole different ball game.....Great fun !.
