I too hope for Zvezda new tool and not another re-box of AM.... Tamiya is very nice, but little expensive and it is a late war production Il2m3. Early types from Zvezda and -50% price tag will be nice :)

Glad to see a new tool from them, I notice the size has it at 30.5cm, is that right?

Many of wrong  dimensions in this catalogue - mistakes during design.

What could set it apart from Tamiya or Accurate Miniatures?

correct spinner and prop blades

neither undersized nor oversized canopy

refined exhausts

correct setting of undercarriage struts

Do tell. What is the final verdict on canopies? Both AM and Tamiya are incorrect?

Cheers,

I'm with Vedran @dragonlanceHR  on this,  you post "such and such" is wrong, but not how it is wrong, or how wrong this is.

Always "happy" to learn more about a kits faults, but details are important, as are the degree of problem, and how hard it is to fix.

I know Vector do a new spinner and prop  for the AM kit.

Exhausts and UC struts sound fixable.

the canopy fault is new to me.  Please explain, preferably with photos.

FWIW

all 3 are the "arrow" wing later Il-2's

I'm going to put an @Learstang as well as perhaps jason can add to the discussion,  and I've not seen him post in the new Il-2 thread...yet.

canopies neither undersized nor oversized-

sorry, this was not a fact based critic on the existing kits  -  please, understand this as kind of a moral imperative. The (minor?) differences were once mentioned in Brett`s compare review:

I hope we will get competent information from Sergej, Andrey or other specialists.

I keep looking at #post 14 and thinking I'm going mad! Do I need to go to Specsavers?!

No. Having looked at the link

http://www.hyperscale.com/2012/features/il2amtamiyacomparison48bg_1.htm

this compares the AM with the Tamiya,  the glitches in the AM kit accuracy wise are minor,  and the two main ones, prop/spinner and cowl air intake,  are not  clear (prop) or visible (intake) in the pics above.

I thin both catch the main shapes well, and so both look fine compared to the real thing.

Now @ABeck has posted the link, his comments are clearer.     Be interesting to see what Zvezda do, and which variant(s)

I await @Learstang  on this, even though 48th is not his thing, Il-2's are :)

I asked because I was aware of AM shortcomings and have the required fixes, and I know about the windshield debate but failed to find which one is correct or if both are correct. I hoped that ABeck had some new info.

Oh well...

Cheers,

Vedran

Well, that looks promising - one thing neither the AM kit nor the Tamiya kit had, an engine. Regarding the AM and Tamiya canopies, I don't see anything glaringly wrong with them.

The minor differences in the canopies are just not worth worrying about.

I haven't seen any mention of versions yet. I'm hoping we get a few, it was nice to see Tamiya do an Il-2 but disappointing to see only one version.

Although I'm not really into 1/48th scale, I'm always happy to see more Il-2s, so yes, it would have been nice for Tamiya to make the straight-winged two-seater, and the single-seater. I'd also love to see them do an Il-2 in 1/32nd scale. As for Zvezda, let's hope they do all three main versions.

Regards,

Jason
