I haven't been out and about for a while and so with the Israeli Eagles at Waddington I decided to do the three plus hour drive and join the throng last Wednesday. The marvellous weather combined with the rumour of the Eagles departing on the Thursday meant that by the time I got to the WAVE at around 8.10am there must have been only ten car parking spaces left and the hedge on the Waddington side of the A15 was packed with ladders. By mid-morning the overflow car park had well over 100 vehicles in it. The rumour of a Thursday departure seemed well founded with the arrival of a second tanker mid-afternoon. Apparently two Hercules had landed at Brize Norton as well prior to flying to Waddington.

In addition to seeing the Eagles and the 707 it was a treat for me to see a Sentinel taking off and a Sentry doing a touch and go at the conclusion of its mission by which time I had moved down to the southern end of the runway.

A big thank you to Gary1701 and Andy (Red Dot) for so freely sharing information on the best spots for photography. A well done is also due to the volunteers at the WAVE, the RAF and Lincolnshire Police for anticipating the crowds and ensuring that chaos didn't reign!

04.30 definitely exists! I don't think I'm alone in sleeping badly if I have to get up early to catch a plane or a train despite multiple alarms being set. The odd thing is that there was no deadline as such but I still had a terrible night's sleep. It was worth it though and I was a bit taken aback to see the size of the crowd that had got there earlier.

Thank you for the nice words, much appreciated. Along with the rest of the crowd I was thrilled to see the four F15s return together and even more pleased when they did the break.

Hi,

Nice and glad to see that you found the end of runway 02. I never got to see the 707's but I heard that they're departures were interesting.

Gary

Thanks Gary, your info about 02 was very helpful; it's a great location.
