JohnT
I am looking to paint a French Air Force Mirage 111e from the early 1980's with the grey/green/aluminium call out. The instruction sheet refers to aluminium and the after market decal sheet refers to "painted aluminium", I am taking it that does not mean a natural metal finish for the underside and they did the same as the US F105 and 1950's RAF paint schemes. Any suggestions as to the best paint finish for the French Mirage assuming I am correct on its not NMF? Thanks in advance as always for any pointers.
AV O
Hi, Just a clarification about the aircraft name. It was spelt so ( Mirage 111 C ) on the Airfix boxing years ago. Nothing to do with an F-111. It is a Roman 3 : III. Hence Mirage III, Mirage IV, Mystère IV. The trouble came later with the Mirage V (for Vertical) which real name is Mirage III V. So they followed with Mirage 5, then Mirage 50. Best regards, AV O Edited February 17, 2022 by AV O
Giorgio N
Yes, it was an aluminum paint finish, not particularly bright and often looking more like a silver-grey. 3
JohnT
ThAnks Giorgio. What I suspected but a Google search didn’t confirm. Very much appreciated. Particularly the observation that it was dull and greyish. I will look for either a match or a mix.
