Are there any Ford Anglia model kits?

Recommended Posts

Hi there!

I am struggling to find any model kits of a Ford Anglia......yes, the very same Anglia that is immortalised in the Harry Potter movies. My good  lady is a Potter nut and has expressed an interest in building one her self.

Problem is, I can't find a kit of one anywhere!?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

I'm sure I have seen a resin bodyshell somewhere. One for the slot racers. No injected kits as such.

If you are quick!

Patto's Place has a 1/32 1960 Anglia - look for 'FD ANGLA".

It's designed for slot car use so expect some scratch building!

We need to work on a diorama.  Baby bandsaw will provide the Hogwarts Express and your (doubtlessly lovely) wife the flying Anglia!

And before you ask, she won’t be allowed to model it with the invisiblity booster working! 😜

There’s die casts depending on scale also the old Triang Minix range had a plastic Anglia.

Air Trax of Finland did a resin transkit, with the Tamiya Lotus 7 as the donor for the engine, wheels etc.  I have bought several of their kits & been happy with the quality (one is half built & the others waiting their turn) but worth noting that these are low volume resin kits, rather than injection moulded so there will be plenty of fine tuning to do.

I don't know if this'll help but Saico do them in diecast 1/32 scale, they are toys really with pullback motors...I've got a couple of their MkI Escorts and they're not bad with a bit of tidying up and detailing...

Andy Swidlehirst does a resin body in 1/24 scale. He traded at Telford last year.

Incidentally, Rod and Ian Knott who show the model museum in miniature have developed a resin out of the Morris Minor in 1/24.

I've got a 1/70th ish  Matchbox die - cast of one with a bent axle and much chipped paint. Nearest model to the one I used have as my very first car but it  was an estate variant in a burgundy sort of red and nicely weathered.   Only had it for around 8 months until someone decided to drive wrong side of road over a hump bridge and cause a head on.    But thats a long story....

My Dad's first proper car was a 105E Anglia. Black with grey body stripe, red upholstery. Lovely little thing it was.

Unfortunately, it got flooded when the Medway burst it's banks and rose to nearly three feet above normal. (My Dad worked for a builder's merchants in Strood in the 50s & 60s, and it was on an old dock side on the Medway)

Insurance paid to clean it up, but my Dad was always a bit wary of the unseen damage (not mention any potential pong issues!)

Replaced it with a brand new 1966 Ford Cortina (FKL 433 D). That was a really nice car too...

Cheers, Alan.

Is he the chap who trades as 'Model cars'? If so he's listed as being at Telford again this year.

I've got a resin Anglia shell that I believe may be one of his, although I got it off ebay and don't recall the seller. I've also got what I believe are one of his Mk1 Cortina & 'narrow body' Mk1 Escorts, as I got them from a trader at Telford a few years back. I haven't done anything on the Anglia or Cortina yet but have started cleaning up the Escort. They all look much the same casting wise - they appear to have good shapes to me but have to be said to be fairly rough castings, lots of 'flash', mould lines and pinholes and are very thick so need a lot of dremel work to thin them down to take a plastic Mk2 Escort chassis (I'd never try and sand it down by hand!!). They do require a lot of work! (as I say I believe these to be Modelcars shells, but apologies to that maker if they aren't!)

I've also got one of the 1/32nd slot car shells and mine is a very nice casting, but again will need a lot of scratchbuilding!

skeefr22, I think you are right, I think that he does trade at Telford as Model Cars. The resin bodies are usually in his large rummage box together with all sorts of other odds and ends. The kits he sell are mainly 1/24th and 1/25th scale.

Mikey, Look on the Harry Potter Studio Shop Website...…..Possibly they might market one>
