so very little if any chipping etc. would be on/around anchor

I am sure the airmen pulled in the anchor and cable and placed it on the floor with great delicacy so as to avoid any possible scratching to the floor paint. In fact they probably protected it with their jackets to avoid any damage.

(Edited to add)

I should have added a smiley to this but I posted from my phone and almost lost the will to live waiting for them to load. I think you could moor a Sunderland faster...

I do love all the discussion about the details that would be invisible if you displayed it on the ground, let alone on the ceiling!! :)

:rofl2:

Thanks Keith - keeps my idle hands busy though eh? I enjoy it too… especially as it gets covered up! :D

Looking great. Would some floor paint chipping under or around the anchor be appropriate?

Thanks Brian…

Thanks AW :D

Except the anchor was only used at away  bases  (where normal mooring was not

available), so very little if any chipping etc. would be on/around anchor

Normal mooring was by way chain/rope through the mooring bollard to the mooring buoy

in the Buoy Trot as in below

Alan

Thanks Alan - very useful :)

Who? What?! :)

The tube has arrived!

"Aha!" I thought, "I can finally use the Dremel Workstation! If I turn it through 90o I can use a cutting disc to chop little bits off the tube!"

Ah. If you rotate the holder the handle goes with it and the tool goes side to side… Rats.

At least I can use it to drill out the window holes…

Nope. Maximum diameter for the chuck is (check 'net for specs - nothing) er, less. Double rats.

At least the tube fits in my mitre block:

So the Workstation can go back to its usual role:

A hanging place for the flexible shaft and somewhere to hang my magnifier.

OK, 14 opening windows I count in Alan's post.

I had said that the tube would fit in the mitre block but actually it sits a bit proud and it's easy to get things out of line:

Rats. Luckily I have spare blades. I found it easier to tilt the blade at about 45o on the edge of the bench and gradually rotate it level. Soon done:

I don't have a 5.2mm drill ( or a 7/32" one) but a 5.5mm drill still gives a tight fit. Two done:

I can see there that I need to tidy up the edges a bit more and will do so on the others. I've also dobbed some Klear in the panel lines / rivets around there; can you see?

Great razor saws but very brittle blades, I have one that looks exactly like that.

I’m greatly impressed by your Dremel equipment, it makes mine look like something you would take to the antiques roadshow so is probably worth a lot of money.

Sorry, Officer Crabtree was the "French" policeman in 'Allo 'Allo. What was a mistype (thongs for things) was perfect to blame on him. But if I have to explain it.....

Carry on that man.

Ah of course! That's why I didn't get it either - for some reason I had it in my head that he was the cop in 'Top Cat'....(who of course was Officer Dibble!) :)

Alan you tempter! :D did have a look at the link (of course) and had a flash back to the 'finger sander' I bought for the Concorde. Bit big innit? Phew…

Nice work, Ced. That must be a monster. I seem to recall having a nice Nescafe with you in the shadow of a Sutherland's wing. Or is that just another LSD flashback?

Cheers,

Bill

We did Bill, we did!

LSD? Is that some kind of filler (ahem…) :wicked:

Or even the one from West Side Story ( Officer Krupke )

Thanks Keith and John :D I must point out, of course, that for copyright reasons it was supposed to be 'Boss Cat' in the UK… didn't work did it?

Just for you… oh OK then, for me really but I like to share:

Which is Bill's photo of the real thing?

Oh, OK, it's pretty obvious but you get the idea. Worth the effort? We shall see… Certainly needs a tidy up.

In other news I've been thinking about the 'glass' for the windows. Remember this?

48797444366_eee670cf66.jpg

I bought it for the… er…(quick search)… Nimrod to 'make a template' for the intakes. Didn't work. I think it will work for 14 bits of glass cut using the Silhouette Portrait and I can use the same design to cut the masks.

I knew it would 'come in'… :D

I agree it needs a tidy up, still it looks very promising

Smart idea for the windows

Ooomph! Lovely work so far Ced. I would have suggested Mr Surfacer air brushed on as a primer to fill those panels, no sanding required either. Your solution seems to be working well though.😇 it’s been yet another busy week at work so not a lot of BM action. Glad to have caught up with the boat however. Oh sorry, ☺️ Aeroplane. 🥰😅😇 lovely internals. Happy you painted the other side of that curtain too. 🤓

Thanks Johnny :) I'm still flooding the lines with Klear:

… as a 'therapeutic job'.

Having done all the opening ports I'm going to do:

48802489978_e3ec5cb1b6_z.jpg

… I was finally able to blast some Hataka Interior grey-green on:

Not as dark as it looks in the picture, honest.

When was Ced knighted? Man, I miss a day or two and look what happens.

Cheers,

PS. By the way, those are massive panel lines. Yikes! I'm curious to see what flooding them with Klear will do.

Yon trench(ant) beast.

It grows ever larger at your hands Ced.

Vivacious anchorage and industry over them last few pages.

One phrase to haunt you though: 'plate racks'.

How are you going to build the plate racks?

Now I have a problem...

My dad always told me his job was working in the galley "making the tea" etc.*

What is that stranger doing the washing up for?

* the etc included reloading bombs or depth charges and firing machine guns at potential unfriendly Germans, dad's trade was armourer and air gunner at later stages of the war

Great story Bill - I bet Dad had some too eh? :)

Progress has been slow, I know. I've mentioned that I'm distracted by 1:1 DIY decorating a bedroom but I haven't shared the full horror with you before. This is the current state:

48804044731_3209482bd6_z.jpg

Never let teenagers choose colours by Ced Bufton, on Flickr

Unggghh. I have some 'No more Cracks for Ceilings' and some 'One Coat' for the walls and the tins promise the earth. We shall see.

I have cut some OHP film for the new windows:

48805852546_d123ff9cb3_z.jpg

For you Silhouette fans, settings were 8/2/25/1.

I'll need to test some glues… but not until I've sanded the new surrounds.

I'll use the same design for the masks and, judging by this:

48805500673_343c8b4a75_z.jpg

… I'd better cut a few more as the Eduard masks seem a little small for the kit windows :hmmm:
