Looking good Ced not far to the finish now

Thanks Roger :) Yep, close to the end but mustn't rush…

Serious weathering going on! Great job, Ced!

Ciao

Thanks Giorgio :)

You've hit the nail on the head Ced, the flexibility of the Oromask leads to tiny distortions that always seem to require some clean up. It's even worse for BPF roundels (or US Stars) with the bars on the side, as they're even less stable than pure circles.

That being said, the roundels are looking fantastic Ced, much better than transfers and well worth the effort.

Edited to say - sweet weathering!

Thanks Cookie - glad you concur… Oramask for, er, masking then and Washi for markings. Tick :)

SWMBO has some water colour pencils which she doesn’t seem to use, think I’ll have to ‘ borrow ‘ them. What do they taste like?

Great looking weathering Ced, what a good idea

Thanks John and Bill - those are the ones I bought and they don't taste of much - don't chew! :D

Thanks hendie, Chris and AW :D

Ah, Citadel 'shade'… I have some of that (but not in the suggested colour!)

Tests this morning:

Note the top of the spoon where I've sponged it off.

Sepia and thinned H30 looking good (although not in that photo). I'll see what they're like when they dry.

you can almost smell the estuary off it now

Living, as I do at present, not a million miles from where Shorts built these machines, I can vouch for the Medway Estuary pong at low tide. :puke:

Thanks Tony and Heather :)

Estuary pong added to underside:

You can see the tray and sponges used in that photo - the brush was just to mix the paint and water.

I think I'm going to go for 'subtle' now with just a bit of H30 lightly sponged above the water line and a bit up the sides.

Oh, and I need to apply the serials.

Thanks Giorgio and Keith :)

Serials on (can you see them?), watery H30 on the sides and floats and some Citadel Sepia shade sloshed on the nacelles and wings:

That'll do.

I need to stick the exhausts on and spray some Tamiya Smoke staining.

Then it's sticky out bits on and we're done!

Thanks Giorgio, Heather and John :)

On with the exhausts and props:

I think I'll de-mask before adding the aerials - too much to knock off otherwise!

Out to lunch now with the family - later.

Thanks Tony and Simon :)

A nice lunch at The Pig - I had pig (crackling) followed by Pig (fritter) followed by Pig (Belly Roast).

Has to be done.

Can't move now and won't need anything to eat for, oooh, at least a day or so.

While the family tuck into soup and cheese (more food? Really?) I took the chance to pastel some exhaust stains.

I chickened out one the Smoke - more control with pastels IMHO.

Mix up some exhaust looking stuff:

…and scrub it on:

Happy with that so on with the matt varnish:

Right, back to the games…

What the?????? This is amazing!! I have been catching up with this in little bits all week then you hit me with a weathering crescendo. 🥰love it Mr B. An early Christmas present indeed. You’re making me miss the grotto even more than I am already, I can’t wait to get back at it. Simply wonderful work sir.

I do have to ask, if the exhaust hedgehog ends are so high above the wing, do you think there would be much exhaust staining on the wing surface?

Chris

No worries Chris, best to check :)

I was a bit disappointed that the matt coat had darkened the exhaust stains but then I saw this copyright image of our subject which is Public on Flickr so I won't post it but do click the link. I guess the hedgehog exhausts spewed gases from the bottom?

She certainly looks a lot messier than my rendering but she's dirty enough for me!

Right, masking off!

Half and hour later and there's a pile of masking:

Pretty happy by and large:

None of the kit windows fell in and none of the 'scratched' opening windows fell out. Result!

I'll need the usual toothpick tidy up but nothing too serious:

I even got that thin band on the rear turret!

… and the rigging's still in one piece!

Now I can go to bed a happy man :)
