Stuart Hmmm. Of course you could buy a cheap bead lathe, although to be honest they don't go around that slowly Some mojo, some masking: Wait a minute, what are those holes in the roof? Check the instructions… MORE windows! Glued in but, as you can see, they're easy to knock (now straightened) and I'm sure I'm going to lose at least one on close up IG on the turrets: …and I think we're ready to close up.

CedB
Thanks Giorgio Bit of white on the back of the turrets (as per previous advice) and front turret assembled: Worried that I'd knock the bomb aimers window inside I glued it on one side now: Getting closer…
Cookenbacher
Oooh, almost time for the ritual combining of fuselage halves, a meaningful moment in any build. It's looking great Ced.
CedB
It is indeed Cookie, it is indeed… but I don't want to rush it eh? Regular followers will know that my current obsession is with canopy blending so I'm determined to make a good job of this one. What's it like OOB? (Ignore the messy Klear(ish) in the trenches) Not bad, but not good. I think it's the ridge on the top of the cockpit: … so that was trimmed off. Better, but still not 'right'. It's actually the size of the fuselage halves I think - if you squeeze too hard it all goes out of shape, but be careful and things sort of wriggle into place. Like the rear turret: It's not 'held' in the middle but can be wiggled there. Now the second part of the fin. Locating pin on the bottom of this and the rudder so you can't slide it in with the fuselage halves joined / dry fitted. Hinges so you can't slide the rudder in from the back. But I've just lined everything up nicely, including the canopy! If I'm careful I can… …make everything fall apart. Rats. Oh well, gives me a chance to sort out the flash that's stopping the rudder sitting properly: … and the remnants of the gates inside the fin that stop the rudder sitting nicely, then I can glue the fin: …and have a calm down before starting again at the front. Out to lunch today so more tomorrow, or maybe later.
keefr22
If it's not too late Ced, I saw a good tip from someone on here a while back - stick some decent sellotape under small windows like those in the roof to stop them falling in on closing up. Belt and braces you could even seal the edges of the tape with superglue... Keith 1

Ciao Thanks Giorgio 3 hours ago, hendie said: keep up with this skill level Ced and you'll be doing Fly kits next! Awww thanks Hendie, very kind. But Fly??!! Finally: …with a nice clean seam: … and a pretty decent canopy join too: I just need to make sure I don't pull off any masks when I remove the tape! I'll give it a blast of primer in the morning and see what trenches and seams need filling.

CedB
Indeed you do Keith - I'd erased that from my memory! Life got in the way today but I did get the empennage fitted with the Princess' help: See I remembered to mask the top windows too? Phew! Primer tomorrow… Or is that manjana? As the old joke goes, it doesn't mean 'tomorrow', it means 'not today'…
Tomoshenko
Canopy looks good Ced. You should be able to blend that in quite nicely.
CedB
Thanks Tomo - fingers crossed! Big holes plugged: …and canopy 'blended' by filing the plastic around the clear part and filling the gap with Vallejo/PPP: I'll shoot some primer on later and we'll see what it all looks like.

AdrianMF
Coming along nicely. I like the picture over the tail, looks very majestic. Although I’m a great fan of the Airfix Sunderland and fondle the plastic often, I have to admit I’m warming to the Italeri version over the course of your build, although it certainly isn’t shake’n’bake. There may be a moderately expensive stash update in prospect Regards, Adrian

There may be a moderately expensive stash update in prospect Regards, Adrian Thanks Adrian I wouldn't recommend it, yet, but that's probably due to my mood and lack of mojo rather than the kit - most of the bits fit pretty well TBH. Primer this morning. Thanks to Cookie and PC's generous gift I find myself in the enviable position* of having three H&S airbrushes: …(oooh, nice) so I've decided that the Ultra can be demoted to my primer / gloss coat airbrush. I hope it doesn't mind. On with the Stynylrez; I also gave the wings another coat: But wait, what's this? Has the Ultra let me down? Well, no. But I think it had a brief protest when I tried to clean it out: Now I don't like to anthropomorphise things too much, but you can never be too careful so I gave it some TLC with a deep(ish) clean. Afterwards I noticed this: (Sorry about the focus) I'd better sort that out before Mrs B diagnoses calcium deficiency and puts me on another 'It'll do you good' diet. * choose your own enviable position, but watch your bad back

CedB
Thanks hendie - the trench filling has helped but we've yet to see the final result In fact, when I turned the wings over, they'd done the same on that side! I decided to experiment with Mr Surfacer on one: … and to try Tony's 'scraped on filler' on the other. Tomorrow. 1
perdu
The trench warfare does not look as if it went very well there Ced, I am beginning to be a big fan of Mr Dissolved Putty which is odd because not much else in their mysterious range seems to work nicely for me. Doesn't take long before I can use it to reduce trenches, might be worth a try some time later huh, quick drying stuff I have to say how impressed I am that you can relegate your Ultra to dogsbody status, wow Nice new blue H&S, well deserved too Enjoy 2

As usual, when the stuff dried, it hadn't filled the gaps - but had left lumps around the edges: Then when you sand that off you realise it didn't go into the trenches / holes: What am I doing wrong? I might give the Dissolved Putty a go tomorrow. 3 hours ago, Biggles87 said: An airbrush with your name on it? There’s posh isn’t it. 1 hour ago, keefr22 said: Too nice to put paint in it!
