Page 2 and no plastic cut… a new record?

The big one first:

Big innit? The wings are big too:

48760714131_bcd07d315e_z.jpg

Note the tank covers - Eduard do some PE for the externals but they look good to me already.

Some really nice internal details too:

48760913667_84c59bd7f9_z.jpg

Who needs PE eh?

Lots and lots and lots of windows. Gulp.

Some surrounds need filling as per 'BM Sunderland Expert' Alan's (@LDSModeller) post here and I'll be following his other comments too.

I'm hoping he might pop in and stop me making any big mistakes.

There's more. Two of these:

48760733436_c2cef95f1a_z.jpg

…and a tree of clear parts:

48760417913_79259792d0_z.jpg

Count those windows! Nicely clear though and, for a change, nicely defined frames:

Nice Cartograph decals / transfers:

48760707841_6e9c92e5b6_z.jpg

Finally, some PE and the masks I bought:

Note the 'rope'; there's an anchor!

All nice. Looking forward to it :)

Damn- page three and nothing has been cut from the sprues as of yet? Guess Ced needs to decompress after that YF-12 build! I'll sit in the back and snatch popcorn from @Corsairfoxfouruncle while he's taking notes! One of my all-time favorite tub toys, so will be following this build with great interest! Let the games begin!

It certainly looks as though you gets yer moneys worth of plastic on this one! Although I have to say it looks as though the wing is paved with cobbles...those are some LARGE panel lines!

Onwards Ced!

Of course there’s an anchor; she’s a flying boat!

Besides, all the best aircraft have an anchor: Sunderland, Walrus, Sea King...

Don’t get too excited about the anchor, it’d be more at home on Captain Pugwash’s Black Pig than on one of His or Her Majesty’s Flying boats (you can see it on the sprue with the hull parts above and to the right of the bomb doors).  If you look on some of the Sunderland walk around images you’ll see what a proper Sunderland anchor looks like (sorry I don’t know how to copy n paste images on an iPad).

You do Ian! The panel lines aren't too bad and there's some nice rivet detail too :)

Here it is :

Looks anchorish? Couldn't find any anchor pictures on the 'net but there are some interesting videos from Pathe on YouTube.

No anchor in the BM walk around of Hendon's here or the video of same here.

Not much progress today:

48763554808_52488cc2eb_z.jpg

I've started getting things ready for IG / black spraying. The small PostIt is the paint colour index, always a pain when they do this IMHO.

Progress may be delayed on this as I have some 1:1 decorating to do. Hate it.

Ced, are you sure this build is in the correct section? Shouldn't it be in the Maritime? 'cos this thing cannot fly, can it?

Are the panel lines similar each side? On my Mk1 it looked like the guys doing either side had fallen out, or the same chap had done one side on Friday afternoon and the other on Monday morning!

I may steal the post it idea, easier than marking out each call out on the instructions!

Cheers

But doesn't @TheBaron use superglue mixed with flour? That would be a nightmare mixer to clean out.....

I wouldn't worry - I'm sure Ced has a tool for that

Thanks hendie and Terry :D Hopefully I won't need that much filler!

Pathetic progress - some holes drilled / burred out:

48764734912_60a19baa1d_z.jpg

I've also made a dog's breakfast drilling out the four 'extra' windows on the right fuselage. I used increasing larger drills but on two of them I didn't get the drill centred. Now I have to enlarge the holes.

How do you use broaches again?

I have a habit of doing that.  My 'fix' is to use a round rat tail file rotating it in the hole - but also pushing the file more towards the side I need to open up (if that makes sense). That way you can get an off center hole back on center, and still round.

It'll arrive in a flipping big envelope marked 'addressee pays postage'....

Quite right Terry. He'll need to substitute custard powder for the flour in this instance.

This would be my goto method also due to failings in this area.

Looking forward to seeing you make this big-shouldered beast Ced with great anticipation I must say.

Believe that the original anchor Shorts proposed was a more elaborate affair:
