Short Sunderland Mk III - Italeri 1/72

Recommended Posts

When I showed pictures of some of my models on the ceiling @perdu commented "…wouldn't it be splendid to see the stately Sunderland flying in formation with her latter-day successor?" As John Luke would say, "Make it so". So I'm going to.

Here's the box art:

I'll do some shots of the part trees later but, before I do, here's a question for you…

EDSG and DSG? Really? Looks green to me…

Great subject but slow down Ced, I can't keep up with you at the moment. I'm only a poor Martian after all.

PS: I don't know what Ced is on at the moment but I want some of it and I want it yesterday!:frantic:

Dark Slate Grey is definitely of the greener side of grey

Well wont it be nice to see the stately Sunnerland aloft with the Mighty Hunter huh

Presumably the Whitehall mandarin in charge MAP colour names took his holidays in the Lake District where the slates are green?

As opposed to Wales where slates  are blue or purple!

PS good luck and I hope you have a big illegitimate-child file and a large tub of filler if it’s like my Mk1!

I only know the Humrol H 31 enamel and it matches the colour to my eyes and yes the sun decides, if it looks more grey or green. And I like the colour!! It's a bit like the look over the Haarstrang from Anröchte to Belecke into the valley's of the Sauerland on different times of the day.

It is, funnily enough.

Here's my Roc showing off its 1940 camo.

That's beautiful Heather. Although it does remind me that Dark Slate Grey looms uncomfortably large in my immediate future, never could get used to the colour.

Can't believe it, I made page 1 of a Ced build, phew!

Excellent choice Ced, looking forward to this one, and as others have said Dark Slate Grey does indeed look green, to me at least, most of the time. That and good old EDSG are simply a delicious combination, which always adds something to the already "extra specialness" of FAA aircraft, and in this case, Coastal Command birds too!

Welcome and thanks Heather :) My lack of knowledge… I've just checked my Colourcoats and confirmed it's green, phew! I trust Jamie so happy now.

Yet another Ced-thread?

Dark Slate Grey is a peculiar one, that's for sure!

Welcome Christer :)

Welcome Martian :) I do seem to be speeding on but, as you'll see below, this one will slow me down I think if only cutting the little windows off the tree!

Here we go again then.

I think that Dark Slate Grey is one of those colours that changes with the light, like the green on Danish F -100s

Welcome John and thanks :)

Well, I’m watching!

may I suggest an 80/20 mix of Rover Tempest Grey and white?

Welcome DC :) Nice tip but I already have 'some whites' to try. I'll certainly add a bit of grey if they're too light.
