basaez.bruno
Hello everyone, this will be the second plane this year (the previous one was another f-18!), now I'm making an early F-18A from the Royal Australian Air force or RAAF. The plane itself it's the second nearest fighter in the photo, or the A21-9 (photo from the web, doesnt belong to me): 3b554d649ffbc2398868203b1f21555f by basco.br1, en Flickr This is the boxart: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48743713498_55d02fdf4d_h.jpg]IMG_20190915_135450 by basco.br1, en Flickrg][/url]IMG_20190915_135422 by basco.br1, en Flickr IMG_20190915_135504 by basco.br1, en Flickr This is the decals sheet, for 5 liveries! 2x Australians, 1x Canadian, 1x US Navy, 1x Spanish IMG_20190915_135518 by basco.br1, en Flickr I already started painting the landing gear bays white IMG_20190916_113527 by basco.br1, en Flickr Also I added 3 screens on the instrument panel IMG_20190916_113554 by basco.br1, en Flickr IMG_20190916_121501 by basco.br1, en Flickr Not perfect but i think it does the job, Now I need your help because I want to add a pilot, but not sure if they use white or gray helmet, or if they use a tan or olive green uniform, hope someone know that It's not too much but i will update this soon, I'm using this week because in Chile we are near the independence day, so I'm in a kinda vacations See ya! Romeo Alpha Yankee
Hi Bruno, Nice work and great subject, nice to see a RAAF 3SQN Hornet build. On you question on the pilots gear, At the time of this photo, the pilots would have worn green flying suits and light grey helmets. I was based at Williamtown at the time 3SQN had updated there aircraft to the Hornet. I was still working on Mirages at the time though. Similar to this 🙂 (this is me after a Mirage flight in 1987) 3

Coming along nicely Bruno

stevehnz
Good progress these Bruno, I'm keen to do one of these too sometime, I saw a 3 sqn machine perform at an airshow here in New Zealand in 1987 & was hugely impressed at it, the one & only time I've ever seen a Hornet in the flesh, mine was A21-11, not too far different from yours. Steve.
Romeo Alpha Yankee
That has come along very quickly Bruno, paint looks good! 35 minutes ago, stevehnz said: Good progress these Bruno, I'm keen to do one of these too sometime, I saw a 3 sqn machine perform at an airshow here in New Zealand in 1987 & was hugely impressed at it, the one & only time I've ever seen a Hornet in the flesh, mine was A21-11, not too far different from yours. Steve. Most likely one of these in the background of this poor quality Mirage shot Steve. This was taken at Ohakea that year. I am standing on the back of the 4th Mirage our Squadron took over for the airshows that year.
stevehnz
Thanks for that Ray, it was at the Harewood 50th Anniversary Airshow I saw it, a bit blooming awesome. I note that Hawkeye do decals for 3 sqn machines, probably a better bet than trying to find one of these kits. Steve.
Romeo Alpha Yankee
OK, the Harewood show was one of the first in the 'season', we arrived for the Ohakea show and then went up to Whenuapia. I got to watch the whole airshow 9 times (including practices). It was a good 2 weeks in you fare land! Yes, Hawkeye has a lot of Hornet sheets for the early schemes. Sorry for the thread hijack Bruno, looking forward to your next update

basaez.bruno
Hello there! I've been kinda busy the last couple weeks, so I couldn't progress a lot in the plane. Anyway here are some pics (After matt coat): IMG_20191005_153034 by basco.br1, en Flickr IMG_20191005_153025 by basco.br1, en Flickr IMG_20191005_180102 by basco.br1, en Flickr IMG_20191005_180043 by basco.br1, en Flickr Also I painted the exhaust and the gun muzzle, but I didn't take pictures of it, also painted the sidewinders. Now I have to paint the red borders on the landing gear doors and the navigation lights. See you soon! Bruno
