I think you are indeed correct @Corsairfoxfouruncle Denis.  I couldn’t resist doing it with full,stripes though.... 😁

Standard ID marking,  introduced due 'similarity' to bf109....

IIRC the AEAF stripes went on pretty much everything in June 44, exceptions 4 engine bombers (but not if glider tugs..hence Halifaxes and Stirlings with them) and seaplanes,  any unit with P-51's in the UK would be over europe, and would have got the stripes.
