Albatros J.I, scratch, 1/48

Recommended Posts

Dear Modellers,

Sometimes you have a lucky day. Years ago I found in an outlet bookstore two books:

“Aircraft Archive Aircraft of World War One Vol.1 and 2 “ by Argus Books.

In them were very nice 3-view drawings, just what I was looking for.

There was a german aircraft that untill then I never saw before, the Albatros J.I

I was impressed that it had armour all round the crew positions.

So I decided to build this model in scratch.

Here are the results, I build it about the same time as the Airco DH-9A.

I still have plans to build the next version -JII , only problem is to find that precious goodie....time🙄

Somehow I like the many two-seaters that flew in WWI , so I build several which I will show in future.

I hope you like the photographs of this one,

With greetings,

JohnHaa

Your scratch-building skills are just fabulous John. Very nice finish, too, particularly on the woodwork.

Outstanding. The wood effect, engine and radiator are especially good.

Everybody thanks for the compliments !  😀

Pity, when I started building scratch models I did not think of making Wip pictures, that came later, when I opened my builders- account at Modelbrouwers.nl

But the way I build scratch models has not changed much.

For most of the recent build models  have a Wip, for which I will include a link.

Kind greetings,

JohnHaa

Amazing skill! My one and only scratch build was a Liberator made out of plasticine ( for a  Cub Scout badge)

I’m going back to plasticine!

Another of your scratch built gems. This is a truly fantastic model with a super finish. I too like the less well known types - tis one I know little about except that they were flown!

Thanks you for your comments for both models !

Indeed, one of the reasons I turned to scratch building is, you can build more odd and lesser known aircraft.  Another reason, I like most of the old Fokkers of the thirties. There are hardly any models in 1/48.

With kind greetings,

JohnHaa

That's very nicely done John. A great little (ok, not little as it's 1:48) model!

I have enough problems with a kit so scratch built models and especially of this quality leave me in awe. I'd give you a 100 likes for this if I could!
