High way to the Danger Zone. I feed the need.
I am building a F-14D of US Navy BuAerNo. 164600/NK100 CAG of VF-31 Tomcatters, USS Abraham Lincoln CVN-72, November 1997.

69961623_10220675713906754_8695080562546

Received the kit direct from AMK warehouse on last Friday. After few hours of test-fitting, all I wanted to tell y'all is: IMPRESSIVE fitting!!
Some parts are like snap-fit and of course some parts you need to tape it during test-fit. No moulding lines on the air intake and fuselage so you'll save a lot of time on sanding. The engine section is awesome, fitting between nose & fuselage are great.

  • Exhaust nozzles: Come with open & close option. You need to put 5 parts together for Open-nozzle but you don't need to do anything for the close one, just cut them out from sprue and install on the housing.
  • Upper fuselage: Moulded in 1-piece and AMK has reserved a small card there for you to install the tailfins with ease.
  • Wing gloves: Please use the wing gloves which labelled R2 & L2, yes the fitting is nice as hell too.
  • Engine: The engine came in 6 parts which including intake fan, turbine, mixer and the engine body. The fitting is very precise, don't even need to glue those fan & turbine to fit them in except the engine body. There is a small joint between fuselage and engine - something like box joint, very accurate and stable.'

By the way I've photographed the sprues and etc, you can check my Facebook album out if you want to see them, they're too much to upload but I will show some of them here:

Painted the cockpit with Gunze 308 and top-coat with Gaia Ex-03 Clear. I do this because I want a smooth and clean surface decal work.
The decals are great, very thin but very good toughness. The printing is spot on and the colours are vivid. Applicable with both Mr. Mark Setter & Mr. Mark Softer, works like a charm.

70% done, continue later.

Phenomenal level of detail in that! And those MFD decals! The pics show a color change from green to yellow, is that just the pic or are they effected by light?

Effected by light just like those ancient Chinese black magic.

Wow.   It marvels me how far we've come that kits can be dry-fit with just a little tape, especially with a subject as complex at the F-14 with so many optional positions for flight control surfaces.   It gives me hope that I even my fists of ham can assemble a kit without too much filler, sanding, and aftermarket.

Glad i have several on pre order.

All that work and they couldnt be bothered to get the rear fuse curves correct.

Amazing engineering but its going to take a bit of work to smooth that air bag, rear fuselage curve into something close to what the real F-14 has.

Amazing yet disappointing all at the same time.

Certainly an amazing piece of engineering and be happy to build them but every time i look at the rear fuselage once you know whats wrong its like a pimple in the middle of your chin before a Saturday night dance....
