Imperial Hobby Productions 1/700 HMS Colossus - Light Fleet Carrier

Looks like another new injection molded ship kit manufacturer, and their first kit is the light fleet carrier HMS Colossus. The box hopefully says "Easy to build plastic model kit." So that's encouraging!

I have seen test shots of this, terrific quality and detail. Not far short of Flyhawk.no known Us distributor yet. Mines on preorder at HLJ.

You can order direct from Mike at IHP as they don't have a US Distributor yet they are doing it themselves :-

It's an excellent kit, I've been following it since it was first mooted as my father served aboard Ocean & Triumph in the late 40s.

Starling Models is the UK Distributor and I have ordered my first pair from them last week.

This looks great.  I usually only build aircraft but, having the FAA as one of my main interests, I would really like to have a Colossus class carrier.  I can't see an air group on the sprues but at last there is now a kit which is appropriate for the Seafires and Sea Furys on the Fujimi Royal Navy aircraft set set.

There is no airgroup in this initial boxing, the focus was on the ship, and waiting on the Airwing to be produced would put the kit back to next spring. The next issue should have an airwing, or alterntives can be found from aftermarket sources such as Starling which has the L'Arsenal Fireflies and Sea Furies. The recent Aoshima Illustrious class had Firefly and Barracuda aircraft but they have not yet issued this as a separate aircraft boxing. US types such as Corsair, Hellcat and Avenger can be easily be sourced for the BPF ships in the class.

That's really good news. And the more potential makers for a 1/700 HMS Belfast the better, well, assuming one of them finally gets around to it...

Yes, so much for the 1943 and 1959 versions of 1/700 Belfast announced by Trumpeter a few years ago. Maybe it's up to this mob, Aoshima (with their recent Counties and Hermes)  and Flyhawk to release some RN light cruisers and injection moulded HMS Eagle, Furious, Glorious, and Courageous? And maybe even a Falklands fit HMS Fearless in 1/700 too? Too much to hope for?

But great news about this new 1/700 injection moulded Colossus Class kit though!

as a diorama 1/700

the first and last Royal Navy aircraft carrier in the Russian, Neva river?

The word "Imperial" in the name of the company simply obliges them to do it!

Is there a uk stockist of these kits?

Starling Models... but they appear to be sold out. The German shop at the link below seems to have some:

If Collossus is sold out, don't worry, IHP are planning on releasing the kit as HMS Glory 1946 (same plastic) and HMS Triumph 1946 (slightly modified) later this year, I'm sure Mike will be getting some in for Starling Models when they come out.
