It has not been far back in my mind, just life getting the way. As for the pylons, there is 3 more to do, sadly only 7 stores were in the kit, but with a flipping great drop tank centre line I suppose that it would reduce the load out. Endurance rather than payload. Simon
Spookytooth
OK folks, on with the show. After giving pieces a coat of gloss varnish, I applied the black wash. Wheels first. And the office too. The main U/C. And bays . I am not happy about the U/C and Bays, so I am going to give them a coat of X2 Gloss white later some when. Still, I have some other stuff to get on with. All comments welcome. Simon.
giemme
It all looks good to me, Simon. If anything, I'd give another go at the black wash and go over the edges with a white dry brush. Just my Ciao
TheBaron
Cool looking work Simon. Love your detailing on those bays.

I will let that fry overnight before going any further. I am leaving the U/C legs alone for now, will tackle them later. I next knocked up some SEA mud. Loud yes but it will darken down once dry., And applied that to the wheels. I am sorry about the blurriness of them. That`s it for today. All comments welcome. Spookytooth
Thanks @giemme, @TheBaron and @Hamden. A quick update, not much done. First up, the wheels got another wash of "Nam Mud" The engine got some detail painting. Gloss Black rocker covers and Silver push rod covers. They need varnishing (Various) Also started on the decals. The pylons (outer) 12 of the .... They will also need varnishing too. That leaves just a few bits to do before assembly. Spookytooth
Thanks @giemme, a bit more done this afternoon. Primed up the inner wing area and fuselage as well. This will help later, once I have laid down the lightest shade of grey you can find. When spraying the Raptor I sprayed the drop tank and gearbox from Sandy. Also, laid down some matt varnish (Tamiya XF 86) over the wheels and office. Next some gloss varnish on these stores, ready for decals. And these pylons for the black wash. That`s all the spraying done for now. Hopefully , I will be able to get some bench time before the weekend to continue. All comments welcome. Spookytooth
Thanks @TheBaron, @stevehnz, @f111guru, and @giemme. A quick update tonight. I managed to squeeze some time on the bench this afternoon and managed to get this done. I didn`t like the darkness of the wash so I took @giemme advice a bit further and spray a light coat of gloss white over. Then loaded up the brush with Mr Hobby H 311 , the lightest shade of grey in the book I reckon. Inboard and centre section only (to help ease up masking the wheel wells later) Also the U/C doors as well. The wing needs another coat as it is a bit rough around one of the wheel bays. Well, that was that, the wife`s birthday tomorrow so doubtful (or foolish) if I get on the bench . All comments welcome. Simon.
Spookytooth
Thanks @f111guru, @stevehnz, @Corsairfoxfouruncle, @Hamden and @giemme. A bit more to report today. I managed an hour last night to get on the bench (the good lady wife was watching the soaps). Cockpit put together. Then out with the black wash again. And problem time !!! Bleedin stays snapped on two of the main pylons. Oh well, another bit of scratching coming up. Today, I got the cockpit fitted in this afternoon. Then joined the two halves up. I will leave that to dry for now, as the bottom join is yet to be made, needs a bit of persuasion . OK folks, the good lady has just called me so until then. All comments welcome. Simon.
giemme
Great progress, Simon - closing the fuselage halves always feels sort of rewarding, to me at least Sorry to hear about the bits that got knocked off, but I'm sure you'll sort them for good. Keep going! Ciao
f111guru
Coming together quite nicely there Simon. Appears the seams fit well and not much sanding or filling. Two thumbs up. Ron VanDerwarker
Spookytooth
Thanks @stevehnz, @Hamden, @Corsairfoxfouruncle, @giemme and @f111guru. A bit more done last night, the bottom join. It needed persuasion to say the least. But after un-wrapping her this morning we have this. And below. Not to bad I suppose, nowt that a swipe of sanding sticks and scribe won`t deal with, I think? Off for a coffee and breakfast (damn, no bread, means no Bacon Butty ). All comments welcome. Simon.
giemme
Not bad at all, Simon In fact, are we sure this is an Italeri kit? Ciao
Spookytooth
Thanks @Corsairfoxfouruncle, and @giemme, not bad for an Italeri kit, we will see later once the wings are fitted. Talking of which, I got time at the spray booth so I gave the lower wing another coat, hopefully that will smooth things out. That was it on her but may get some more done this evening? All comments welcome. Simon.
f111guru
You've come along well despite the hiccups on the joints. But, we've all been there once or twice, hmmm or more. I have in my stash some 6 or more ESCI A-1 Skyraiders from 30 or more years ago. May have in total ESCI or ESCI/Italeri, ERTL/ESCI near 20 of there kits from the MIG-23, G-91, F-18, F-8, A-7D/E, F-100D, Mirage III, KFIR. So I like punishment or love to scratch build interiors. Great work Simon. Press on with pride. Ron VanDerwarker
Spookytooth
Thanks @f111guru, thankfully my stash doesn`t go back that far in buying them but probably a few "Stone Age Airfix Kits" in there some where. OK finally tonight I got the wings together. First fixed the cannons in place with a spot of putty in the grooves as well. Then the top wings in place. I suppose leave to set overnight will have to do. Hopefully not too much cleaning up to do. Anyhow, have a great night. All comments welcome. Spookytooth
Thanks @f111guru, @Hamden, @Corsairfoxfouruncle and @giemme. Well it looks like I made a cock up on the last posting. I did fix wings together. Then dry-fitted it/them to the fuselage. Not to bad a fit on top, but the bottom was a different story, out with the filler. And afterwards. A little bit more to do there. Upper joins? Ooooops. Not so bad I suppose. Well time to break out the filler again. All comments welcome. Simon.
Spookytooth
Thanks @f111guru, @Hamden and @giemme, a little bit of remedial work. Wing roots needed a bit of white. Also the leading edge joins too. The other side similar. Well, let`s see what tomorrow brings , shall we. A peaceful night to one and all. All comments welcome. Simon.
Spookytooth
Thanks @giemme, and @f111guru. I did attach the tail feathers last night and allowed them to set. A quick rub around and then decided to mask and prime. Hopefully it won`t show to many problems. Firstly, the upper sides/joins. Well, a bit there. Passable ? Again, passable. Upper rear. Smooth as you like. Front Port join. Work needed doing there I see. And here as well. Here too. Tail feathers next. Yes, again, but minor. Not bad? Well, the old trick of giving it a coat of primer did the easy part of finding the areas which need TLC. So out with the filler etc. All comments welcome.
