Sandy, No not the Grease Tribute. A 1 H Skyraider

Recommended Posts

Thank you @Cookenbacher, @phildagreek, @Hamden, and @giemme, I have still got a long way to go on learning to spray properly.

Gloss varnish this morning/lunchtime.

IMG_2485

Ready for decals/washes etc.

The prop was given it`s tips and hub a splash. XF 3 on the tips, Alcad 2 Airframe Aluminium on the hub.

IMG_2486

And the canopy got a coat of XF 52 Dark Earth.

IMG_2487

I have still got the tail hook to sort out, and other bits but it should be close to giving the big bird a coat of gloss varnish and on with the decals.

Stay safe.

Sorry to throw this out here but I have a quick question ? Ive only seen one photo of Air Force Skyraider’s from Vietnam with the Yellow tipped propellor. I see a good number with the bi-color tip of white-red-white. I wonder before its to late do you have a photo of your subject ? To confirm its Yellow.

Thanks @giemme , @Cookenbacher, and @Hamden.

And an apology to Dennis @Corsairfoxfouruncle, you are right, the tips are red and white, the colour call outs for this version are misleading.

The walkways on the wings are not mentioned nor the rear decking behind the canopy. While on those instructions I was puzzled on where the steps goe too.

OK folks, I have been a little slack so I got on with those small jobs that needed doing.

Decals on the other side of gun pods.

IMG_2494

Masts ready to be fitted later this evening.

IMG_2495

Holes for the steps (Each side )

IMG_2496

And the walkways masked off ready for tomorrow.

IMG_2497

IMG_2498

And the IP coaming was done ready as well.

IMG_2499

I will plug the cockpit before spraying.

Stay safe.

Yes, but that is the easy part - albeit it's a bit of a chore, I reckon :)

Thank you @Cookenbacher, @Hamden, @Corsairfoxfouruncle and @giemme.

Hi folks, I put a bit more masking tape on her ready for spraying/remedial work.

IMG_2500

Then started spraying with X 35 on those bits and pieces lying around.

IMG_2501

IMG_2502

IMG_2503

The other bay door is around, I found it after spraying the varnish.

And I gave the walkways/IP coaming a squirt of Mr Hobby 401.

IMG_2504

The walkways are a bit rough in places so a buff up and light respray in order.

I hope that you are all enjoying the Bank Holiday.

Stay safe.

OK masking off.

IP coaming.

IMG_2505

That`s OK.

But the wing walkways...

Starboard first.

IMG_2506

And the Port one.

IMG_2507

A poser?

I think that I will lower the Port one, I have still some Dark Earth to lay down along the spine.

And any weathering would be quite strong as well.

Yes, that is some excellent paint work.

Thanks, but it was more a case of unevenness along the demarcation line.

Thanks @Corsairfoxfouruncle and @Hamden.

OK folks, a little bit more done.

The masts along the spine were refined and smoothed into place.

Then a splash of Mr Surfacer 500 to seal.

IMG_2508

Buffed up and then masked.

IMG_2509

Along with port walkway.

And I don`t want any over-spray.

IMG_2510

The windscreen got a touch of paint. XF 52

IMG_2511

As well as the spine bits.

IMG_2513

And that walkway.

IMG_2514

Before changing colour to XF 7 for the first coat on the prop tips.

IMG_2512

Let that dry for now.

Stay safe.

Agreed some nice work here, sorry to cause you a headache on the prop.

Thank you both and Dennis no need to apologize, I should of checked my references first.

Thanks to @Cookenbacher and @Desk Flyer .

OK folks, I hope that you all had a great weekend, it was nice down here on the South Coast.

Varnish time, out with the W&N Gloss.

IMG_2520

IMG_2521

IMG_2522

IMG_2523

Happy enough for the decals to on, probably tomorrow.

And I scratched another pitot , the one on the left is the latest creation, a much cleaner join.

IMG_2524

I still have the prop to do.

I had to rub the tips down as the black was too strong for the red.

Anyhow, coffee time folks.

Stay safe.

Nice gloss coat, Simon

What's your opinion about W&N gloss clear in terms of handling? Is it tough enough? I assume you use W&N Galeria acrylic, right?

TIA

The jury is out on this one at the moment G.

I was thinking about Alcad 2 Aqua Gloss but the big H. ran out before the lock down and I am un willing to pay stupid prices for courier delivery (our postal system is W***). I was going to order from my LHS until all this kicked off.
