How much tape do you have ? The masking can be very important to get right might be wise to wait if you dont have enough tape.

I've got enough but if I need more the LMS is only 10 minutes away.

So this evening has been spent adding another thin layer to the 65 on the fuselage sides, painting the underside of the cowling and the rudder rlm04 and made a start on the rlm02 on the wings.

Haven't ever sprayed rlm04 before and have to say I'm rather pleased with how it's come out!

Morning folks,

A few rubbish pictures but wanted to share last night's progress. I'm hoping this rain clears up so I can get some decent natural light to show the effect properly but seems unlikely at the moment.

The great thing about having young kids is they go to bed early and with the wife busy working more progress has been made. I actually managed to get more done last night than I showed in my earlier post so this is a combination of 1 and a bit evenings work.

I was really nervous about using the masks for the markings, they were really fiddly and didn't want to line up very well but I persevered with them.

I started by placing each individual piece onto the model being careful not to stretch the vinyl which, to be honest, is quite difficult. Each one too a bit if time and didn't always sit perfectly. I was starting to wonder whether they were worth the hassle.

Once all pieces had been placed I removed the parts that needing to be painted white. Nice thin coats which were allowed to fully dry and then the masking for these parts were put back.

The masks were removed for the black parts and again sprayed with thin coats. All masks removed and I was really happy with the outcome.

There's a couple of bits that need touching up but no overspray.

These will dry overnight and then probably tomorrow evening I'll see if I can get the bars and chevron sprayed and the crosses underneath too.

Any feedback at all would be awesome! Hope you enjoy the photos.

Bravo on the markings, if i ever do a larger scale kit I'm pretty sure thats the way to go. I have to live in the smaller/medium sizes due to lack of storage. But someday hope to build a few large aircraft.

Thanks Dennis,

i think we we all struggle with the space issue, wouldn’t it be nice to build as big as we wanted and not have to worry?

no real progress over the past few days other than mask up the underwing crosses. I started to mask up the bars for the fuselage but I think I’ll just use the decals as it a right royal pain and don’t think painting them is going to be worth the effort.

More this evening though.

You did very well with the masks and I find that painted markings are usually superior to decals. Wondering about the swastika though. Standard ones at this period would have had a thin white and black border which would be very finicky work with masks unfortunately.

Thanks mate.

The masks didn't come with the white border strangely and I am giving thought to adding it in. Quite some work though so won't tackle it just yet

I'd be using decals there to be honest.

It is tempting but I'll see what happens when I get to doing something about it.

No in progress shots this evening as just got cracked on for a couple of hours. The underwing crosses were masked and painted and decals on for the rest of the markings and stencils.

I think it's time to make a start on the engine. Gulp. Wish me luck...

Braver man than me with the masks. The markings look really good though. Hope to see this one at the club  next month.

Thanks mate.

It should be done by then so if it is I'll certainly be bringing it along.

Be gentle though 🤣

Good morning folks

Bit of a disaster last night. I masked off around the cockpit to paint the back before glueing the rear canopy section in. Unfortunately the tape went onto the decals and, Well, ripped part of them off 😥

I've had to cobble together parts from decals left on the sheet. Not perfect but some work should see then blended in. Gutted.

In other news work has started on the engine. It's relatively straight forward but the pipes and hoses are fiddly. A couple from the bottom have broken in half when cleaning them up but as they're on the bottom it doesn't matter so much as they won't be seen.

Here's how the pipes and hoses come in the box

Engine at the stage of being ready for semi gloss black. I won't add the mourning brackets etc until later on.

The whole lot got a coat of semi gloss black last night and has been left to dry fully. I'll have a look this evening at any bits that the paint hasnt got to and 're paint of necessary.

Then it's paint the aluminium and silver bits the work out how to attach the wires. Should be fun...

That's one lil gem of an engine! Glad it'll be on display.

Not bad is it. But then for the money it should be!

More progress last night. Feels like the build has come to a stop and progress has really slowed down because I'm into fiddly bits but it's getting there slowly.

First up, the airframe got a flory dark dirt wash and this was removed. A bit peeved though. I usually don't clear coat over the paintwork as paints in the past have been hard enough to take a quick run to get the wash off. Not sure if it's because the paint here is thin but a few spots have worn through. Nothing major just a tad frustrating.

A couple of the stencil decals are a bit pants too. They haven't gone down well at all.

Here's the finished article with the flory removed

And the engine. Semi Gloss black.

Flory sand wash applied to try and represent some dust and weathering. Removed with a cotton bud, paintbrush and water.

Wiring started

20190930-221426.jpg

And one side finished. Took forever.

20191001-080051.jpg

Reasonably happy but then I'm always hard on myself so could be better.

And that's where we are.

Edit. Should also have said the super glue used on the wiring has reacted with the semi gloss black. See the white underneath the wiring. Might be able to use it as some weathering.
