Corsairfoxfouruncle
Great work you need to do more photo's from other angles. Maybe some close-ups as well.
j_holtslander
Can you explain the technique for the cotton? Is it just airbrushed?
Red Five
Hi, I bought some flickering LED lights and put a small mesh cange around them then used some cotton stuffing and airbrushed it. I used yellows and oranges closer to the flame itself so the LEDs would enhance the colour, i found that just spraying the cotrtom black shades really subdued the effect. The pic and video below are during WIP but show the flame better. https://www.flickr.com/photos/123155943@N05/48019341878/in/dateposted/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/123155943@N05/48020604302/in/photostream/
j_holtslander
Is the cotton still soft and shapeable or did you spray any kind of glue on it? Or does the paint help it keep it’s shape?
Red Five
Its soft, its more of a synthetic stuffing from a pillow case it kinda just clung to the mesh, jam it in the gaps a little, the mesh was maybe 8mm squares so not too fine but you could coat the mesh in some kind of glue, i didnt want to coat the cotton itself as i didnt want any kind of sheen to it. Im going to try and use the 'cotton' for a smoke trail from a crashing me109 soon and plan on coating a wire rod in either double sided tape of spray adhesive then wrap it around the wire quite tight so you cant see through it. Thats another point you have to get a good balance of thickness too as you can see the mesh if its too thin but if you heap it on it looks too fake
