Popular Post Gimme Shelter
Who can't deny the thrill of standing under a Queen of the Sky on the Perimeter Road as she drops down through the last 100ft of her final descent? Magic eh? Be it the First Officer or the onboard INLS calling it out, …. "100 Above" The kit is of course, the tired old Revell 1/144 747-400. This one should have had Iron maidens Book of Souls livery but that was never going to happen. Wearing a mix of 26 Decals and Authentic Airliners British Airways Chatham Historic Dockyard Decals, the engines came from a specially purchased BA Landor version of the 747-400 to get those 4 mighty RB211's as I did not like the Braz options I started out with, and the most costly part was the Shapeways.com 3D printed leading and trailing edge flaps. You cant really see it but I have also used the phot-etch sets on the undercarriage and altered the undercarriage bogies to their naturally receptive droop in readiness for touch down. Some "in-build stage" shots below for you now.... Thank you to those of you who followed the WIP. This is one of the few builds I have walked away from and can say "I am happy with that build" - it turned out how I wanted it to and is a subject very dear and close to my heart. It is a very nice setting to the plane. I like it very much. Edited September 5, 2019 by Orso

It's brilliant, one of the best builds I've seen. I always love a model which tells a story and this one certainly does! The end of a long flight just a few more seconds to go. Congratulations on the work you've done on the wings, both the dropped flaps and slats and the great weathering, they're always the grubbiest part of any airliner. Love it. What's next? Cheers, Ian

stevehnz
That is stunning, a beautifully built airliner & so much story telling in that small area. Fantastic. I'm pleased to say I got @2Step's joke, but only after scrolling back to check his location & which side the cars actually were on. Cheers, Ian Glad you like it Ian - I was aware you would have an interest in this build. I have a half built 1/144 BEA A319 on the bench and that 1/144 TU 144 is collecting dust but for the now, I am building Valoms 1/48 BN Islander as something a bit different from my norm - I'll be back on the heavies / civies again soon for sure
Brandy
I'm not an airliner fan, but this is gorgeous. Very nicely built and a great display mount, with cars on the correct side of the road! My only comment would be the lack of a recess in the wing leading edges for the slats to retract into, and if that's all I can come up with, I'd say you did a damn good job!
