Whitley Mk III RFI - Fly 1/72

I've been waiting to build this until people have forgotten that Airfix have brought out a new tool that is, no doubt, much better.

It looks like a nice kit though; resin, PE, nice canopy molding… and then I remembered it's short-run.

A month later and after a few, ahem, issues (see WiP here for details) she's ready for the ceiling…

Colourcoats paint, W&N matt varnish and lots of Anglo-Saxon. I hope you like it.

Landing lights are Marabu with Diamond Sellotape for the 'glass'.

Finally, the famous Mk III ventral turret:

Glad that's over but fairly happy with the result :)

Very nice. Might get Airfix's one when I finally have a new display case sorted out

Thanks Adam - it'll certainly be easier than this kit, I hope! :)

Nice job, looks just right and really different with the Tiger radials.

Sometime I'll get on with the pair of Airfix one's I have.

:goodjob:

Davey.

Thanks Davey :)

Love that, always love a Whitley. That turret looks like a R2-D2 prototype!

Marc

Thanks Parc :) Turrets? Don't talk to me about turrets!

That looks terrific, Ced.  Really good to see a Tiger powered one for a change.  I would imagine that the Fly kit doesn't exactly fall together either.  I only hope my Airfix one turns out as good.  Nice to see one with the wheels up too.  It really accentuates the sleek lines of the Whitley :drunk:

Your hard work and dedication paid off.

Thanks kapam :) Not the easiest of kits but worth the effort.

Thanks MB - short runs are always a bit of a challenge, but they do such interesting subjects! :)

  • 2 weeks later...

I've finally got around to hanging the Whitley in 'Bomber Alley':

Showing off her ventral turret nicely:

Not my favourite job, standing on a step ladder trying to tie 'invisible thread'.

This time I knocked off one of the prop blades AND the aerial wire so she had to come down again for repairs.

Of course you'll have predicted that, if you followed the WiP, I've also lost an actuator…
