Bandai's Super Star Destroyer

Recommended Posts

The Mr Hobby 1608 LEDs are using the metric SMD nomenclature. Metric 1608 SMDs are the same as 0603 non-metric SMD LEDs. Those are 1.6mm x 0.8mm x 0.6mm in size.

Prewired 0402 (metric 1005) SMD LEDs are your best bet. They're easily bought online, and are only 1mm x 0.5mm x 0.45mm in size. And the prewired ones are easy to install since no brain surgery-style soldering is required!

I've designed Star Destroyers to match the Bandai SSD kit, and the lightable versions contain tunnels for 0.5mm fibre optics and 0402 SMD LEDs.

You'd need to do something similar for the Bandai kit. You'd drill out the engines, then route fibres back through the centre of the vessel and stick your LEDs in there. In fact, it doesn't even need anything as small as an 0402 really, since you'd be relying on the fibres. Even if the sides of a fibre were to be exposed owing to the diameter of the hole you could paint it to match the hull.

Oh hey! I've bought some of your stuff for my Bandai Falcon before!

Those micro SDs look interesting. Hmmm.
