j_holtslander
Anyone currently working on this kit? I just bought it and am getting started on it but I'm feeling a strong desire to light those engines up somehow. The scale appears too small for both fiber optics or LEDs though. Anyone attempting this?
Madmonk
I’m waiting for a kit to arrive so I can have a look at it. SMD LEDs might be an option 0402 LEDs are only 1mm x 0.5mm!!

j_holtslander
I did you one better. Here's a full YouTube video unboxing/assembly. (Video was just uploading so HD may not be immediately available.) Edited September 5, 2019 by j_holtslander
j_holtslander
Just spotted these new LEDs from Mr. Hobby that might work. http://www.mr-hobby.com/en/itemDetail.php?iId=3035
Millennium Falcon Notes
The Mr Hobby 1608 LEDs are using the metric SMD nomenclature. Metric 1608 SMDs are the same as 0603 non-metric SMD LEDs. Those are 1.6mm x 0.8mm x 0.6mm in size. Prewired 0402 (metric 1005) SMD LEDs are your best bet. They're easily bought online, and are only 1mm x 0.5mm x 0.45mm in size. And the prewired ones are easy to install since no brain surgery-style soldering is required! I've designed Star Destroyers to match the Bandai SSD kit, and the lightable versions contain tunnels for 0.5mm fibre optics and 0402 SMD LEDs. https://www.shapeways.com/product/RMENANAJ4/tiny-lightable-space-destroyers-17mm?optionId=119845844 You'd need to do something similar for the Bandai kit. You'd drill out the engines, then route fibres back through the centre of the vessel and stick your LEDs in there. In fact, it doesn't even need anything as small as an 0402 really, since you'd be relying on the fibres. Even if the sides of a fibre were to be exposed owing to the diameter of the hole you could paint it to match the hull. I've bought some of your stuff for my Bandai Falcon before! Those micro SDs look interesting. Hmmm.
