looking for some 1970's era BAOR British service figures in DPM combats or OG's for a RAF Police diorama I am planning.  However finding it pretty hard to find any of the same era other than those here https://www.djparkins.com/home.php?cat=292

Also looking for anywhere I can get 1/35 scale SMG Sterling sub machine guns?

Not much available that I can see; in resin Blackdog do a couple of Royal Marines from the Falklands that might work

I have noted several discussions on this subject over the years and the dearth of suitable figures of British forces from the 1970s/80s suggests a real market gap /  opportunity for an enterprising manufacturer to step into. In particular the emergence of 3D scanning / printing technology on to the scene in the last few years suggests this could be a good prospect. Especially as we are starting to see more UK AFV's of the era hitting the mainstream in addition to the specialist resin.

I have no idea of the typical costs involved in manufacture and the prices of the end product seem quite high but the end result is more often than not absolutely stunning - more lifelike than is possible from all but the most talented figure sculptuers. I am sure that anyone who has seen what Fench firm Reedoak has produced will agree!  They also have the advantage of being scaleable (i.e. 1/35, 58mm, 1/48, 1/72 etc.) Perhaps Reedoak could be persuaded to have a look at this era... might be worth dropping them a line (mentioning N. Ireland, Falklands, BAOR etc).  Of course they would need to get apporiate models dressed in appropriate kit, weapons etc... not forgeting the issue tash and side burns...!

On a par with Reedoak is UK firm ModelU which is focussed on figures for model railways from different eras. I purchased some of their range recently (modern civilians from the Town and Country range) for use in an airshow diorama (I notice plane spotters bear an uncanny resemblance to train spotters...) and they are quite superb!  So lifelike... well I guess they are real people. They have an expanding military figure range now (WW1 & WW2) which look fantastic - certainly worth a look -  and it could just be that this is something they might want to have a go at. Might be worth an email or 2 to whet their appetite... any BAOR re-enactment groups for scanning...?:mg:
