Alistair, The cockpit looks very light. Is it just the photos or have you done it in RLM02?

I'm sure it should be RLM66. Most likely too late now anyway.

Yes i have used RLM 02 which im happy with  .

The instructions call  for this colour and images from the aircraft that was lifted from the Norwegen feord show 02

The productionof the 115 started sometime in 1937 and many early Luftwaffe aircraft had 02 cockpits

Alistair,

You will note I edited my post almost straight away when I realised I was on the wrong build. You must have been very quick with the reply.....

Alistair, The cockpit good. I almost got confused with your Do217N build and made a comment about it needing to be RLM66.

This is the edited version of the post. 🙂

Hi Greeg  .reminds me iv got those two 217's on the go too . No work on them untill this one has been completed . Yep they will be in RLM66.

I have a few Luftwaffe aircraft parts where the 02 hqs been overpainted in 66 so guess they were either removed from one aircraft and repainted when used on another 66 painted aircraft or a 02 painted aircraft was repainted 66 .

Fuselage sides are now together without any big problems . The soft plastic produced a good bead with the action 0f a Tamiya extra thin cement / Revell Contacta cocktail .

That looks good. Pleased to see it went together well.

Thanks Greg . Like most S/H kits there are lots of seams to clean up but the parts lined up well ,which is good concidering all of the windows along top and bottom . I have tst fitted all of the glazing and the fit is also very good . Thought about puting the glazing in before attaching wings makes handling more dificult but i expect another round of sanding and i want to reduce the risk of dustentering the fuselage .

I'm still thinking about doing the Matchbox 1/72 version and this is incentive! Nice work.

Thanks Thom

Given hind sight i would have built this aircraft in 1/72 as in 1/48 its huge

Wings now assembled so next job will be to attach them

I have used some scrap plastic card to secure the wing pannels from underneath to prevent the mistakanly being pushed in after assembly

Crikey that is a large model.great work getting everything together. I must admit I love Special Hobby kits, they make some kits of unusual aircraft.

Keep up the good work

All the best

Chris

I agree Chris ,i have a fondness for Special Hobby kits . they have just the amount of chalange i like to keep the grey matter exercised ,#.

That's excellent progress Alistair.  Your build looks really well done.  I wish I could get my builds that clean.

I'm matching your build with a He 111H-4 over at the WIP forum.

thanks for dropping by Greg .I expect your He 111 is going to keep you bussy for a few months .

The Engines have been completed and the wings are on .

To get a dood fit of the wings over the small shallow stubs on the fuselage i used some sprue to actas spreaders,

Have managed to get a near perfect fit .

Used my trusty Plastic weld to get a good bond and filled small gap wth some Super glue/ Talk mix.

To mount the engines to the wings i have made some plastic card spacers which will provide a more secure glue bond

Nearly forgot to attach a small resin part in rear cockpit

Its a funny little part that looks like a toe nail clipping . Cant think why S?H made it as a seperate part.

Since this picture i have blended it in with super glue talk mix.

Next stage will be to attach the floats.

It's  big alright Adrian.  I have the kit myself and was keen to build it. However,  I decided to stick with the smaller planes for the moment.  This is just in case I have to move in the not too distant future.  Mind you I have broken that rule lately by starting the Heinkel He 111. I simply cannot wait any longer. Life is too short not to have a Heinkel in it...

Anyway I'm enjoying this build. My one will be part of the PQ17 theme build.

Looking great! I’m amazed at the level of interior detail on it and the masks look like they worked really well. It’s a whopper in 1/72 so I can quite imagine it’s a bit scary in 1/48.

Regards,

Adrian

Thank you Adrian . I find that most S/hobby kits have good interior detail .I dont know how much will be seen untill i remove the masks .

How is your He111 getting on Greg .  A house move must be one of the modellers top nightmares !

The floats are on . Used some brass tube for pins as there was noway it would have stayd together with only the power of glue .  99.8 % symetrical

Looking good Adrian.  Good call on the pegs. I think it will need it. Surprising SH didn't allow for that. The Heinkel is still moving along slowly at the moment.  I need to put most of my time into the P40-N as it's deadline is getting close. To be honest I would prefer to be working on the Heinkel right now, but I don't want to miss another deadline.

Good to see some progress. I have a set of those masks for the Heinkel.  The interior masks were good to use, but I don't think I will use the markings mask.with my shaky hands I would never get them to line up. I find they stretch out of shape far to easily for me to position accurately.

I've got most of my masking done on the Heinkel.  I will go into town tomorrow and get the polishing cream and see if I can get that glue mark out. Then I can put the fuselage together and really make some progress.

I'm looking forward to see this one painted. Are you going to do the winter scheme or the summer one? Personally I prefer the summer one. Mainly because I think of the plane during the Battle of Britain rescue period or the PQ17 torpedo operations.
