Shelliecool
Since my last post I have attached the ailerons, and secured the dividing panel in the bomb bay. With these drying, I began work on the radial engines. Firstly airbrushing the engine sections and the inside of the cowling. Then I carefully but the engine and once dry began assembling the cowling around the outside. This kit has the cowlings in 4 parts, this means they obviously fit over the engine easily, but there are a few gaps. Once dry I added a little filler and began sanding, still needs a little more before I secure the cowlings to the aircraft. I am having problems with village photos, so it's back to photo bucket until the problem is solved.

Hi Michelle, the build is progressing nicely, and a build without some problems is nowhere near as interesting... Why don't you try Flickr? It works a charm and is a hell of a lot more user friendly and less stuck up than Photobucket! Have fun! JR
dogsbody
Michelle, I see you have followed erroneous engine painting instructions and painted the engine's central gear casing Aluminum. These should be semi-matte black. Chris 2

Thanks again, any tips and pointers are greatfully received! Michelle.
Shelliecool
Having attached the engines to the aircraft, I set up my airbrush and mixed up some Vallejo primer. Mixing 5:1 with thinner (I find the primer rather thick) I gave the build a coat, which I left to dry over night. When I went back to the build this evening I was really happy with it, I appear to have done a pretty good job sanding down the seams, and the primer has dried evenly. So I began preshading the panel lines, there is a fair amount of detailing on the aircraft so it took a while, but she is now drying awaiting some colour.
CedB
Wow. I wish I had the patience (and skill) to pre-shade… good work Shellie

Shelliecool
With my preshading dry I carefully masked the top side and fuselage up, brushing some Quick shine gloss along the edge of the tape (to hopefully eliminate any bleeds). Then I mixed up some Vallejo Azure blue and began to spray. The paint mixed and settled well, and after one light coat she looks pretty striking. Well I think so anyway.

Shelliecool
I have given the Blenheim another light coat of Azure blue, and once this was dry, mixed in a little white to add some highlights. Once the highlights were dry, I sealed this in using Quick shine gloss varnish and left it to dry overnight. Today I have carefully masked up the underside of the aircraft, brushing some Quick shine along the edges of the tape, hoping to eliminate bleeds. I will leave this to dry before beginning the camo pattern on the top side of the aircraft.

Shelliecool
Today I have begun adding a little Colour to the top of the aircraft. I roughly marked out where the Middlestone sections of camouflage pattern are and set up my airbrush. I mixed the paint with some Vallejo thinner and airbrushed a light coat. Another coat and some highlights and it will be time for the Dark Earth.
Brandy
Looking good....I hope you can get the pre-shading equal on both colours. Ian
Shelliecool
With the highlights dry on the Middlestone acrylic (I mixed in a little white for this), I have added a coat of Quick shine gloss in prep for masking and airbrushing the Dark Earth. I'm pretty happy with the look so far.

Shelliecool
I have added another light coat of Middlestone, and airbrushed some highlights onto this before sealing it in with Quick shine gloss. I then masked up the Middlestone and sprayed a light coat of Dark Earth. As I usually find the Vallejo acrylics airbrushed well, and I have since added another light coat. Next I will tone it down with a few highlights before sealing it in too. Edited October 20, 2019 by Shelliecool
dogsbody
A Blenheim and a Halifax! Wow! I still haven't finished my Hurricane yet. But then, I'm a major procrastinator and a bit fearful of the paint stage. Chris
Col.
Nice work Shellie. With one lurking in the stash I'm following along now to pick up tips if you don't mind.
Shelliecool
Once I had removed the mask, I sealed the Dark Earth in with Quick shine and turned my attention to the decals. To help them bed in I used a little micro sol, and set to work. There aren't too many decals, and they were nice quality. They went on with ease, and have settled well.

I made sure to get some photographs of the Blenheim's cockpit interior. Today I have built the frame around the pilots seat, fitted the seat in place with the control column. I then secured the clear parts in both halves of the cockpit section. Moving along slowly, but good so far. I wonder if that cockpit is from the last airworthy Blenheim when it crashed and was backdated to a Mk.i

Shelliecool
Work continues on the Blenheim, I have masked and airbrushed the top turret. I'm fairly pleased with the results and have fitted it in place. I have also been constructing and Painting the undercarriage, this I built by placing the pieces in the wheel well and gluing the two pieces (ensuring they would fit once painted). I then removed them and airbrushed them. Apologies for the poor lighting on the photo. I have also built the wheels ready for priming and painting. After all this I weathered the aircraft, mixing a dirt wash, which I applied and removed in the direction of airflow. Almost there.
