CrazyCrank
Good morning chaps Further work on the set windshield/dashboard. As you've probably. noticed, Heller provides a one piece cast crystal part for the windshield and the dash 😯 Not so easy to paint and extra-detail, especially because there's a sharp angle between windshield and dash, making it difficult to put the paintbrush, but with good magnifier glasses and a ton of patience, it can be done ! First, I've painted with Tan enamel (Humbrol mat 62) the wooden frame of the windshield, 2 layers Second, after having put masking tape around the wipers, exterior side, I've painted them with Molotow Chrome Third, after having put masking tape around the rubber part of the wipers, interior side, I've painted them Matt black Fourth, I've put the first layer of ivory color on the dash (I got this color mixing 3 drops of Humbrol enamel yellow 7 with 10 drops Humbrol enamel white 22).12 hours are needed to let out dry before applying the second layer Furthermore, I'll paint the dash buttons, the radio, and , when I've received the decals I've ordered on the Internet, I'll put the gauge decals on the dash, and finally the rear-view mirror Meanwhile, some photos: (With the magnifying of the photos, the paint reveals all its defects, but, with the naked eye, it's rather correct...of course, I've to improve my skill with brush painting !) Stay tuned and thanks fo watching
CrazyCrank
Evening chaps 😞 Bad day for me, pity 😒 Have you ever spilled accidentally acetone onto crystal plastic parts ? No ?..... so you're lucky ! That is what happened this evening whereas I put the final touch on my dash/windshield. I was drying the matt clear coat I'd just put on the dash, using my Tamiya airbrush , that I believed it was perfectly clean.... Pity there was a little solvent in the cup, and I sprayed it on the dash/windshield. I let you imagine the result of this stupidity: I tried to repair this mistake, but it's impossible ! So, I had two choices: - abandon the build - or get a new windshield, that means buy a new complete kit ! What should I do ? Well, I've just ordered a new complete kit, which will provide me a perfectly transparent (hopefully) crystal windshield and a lot of spare parts for further modeling ! It will be delivered next Monday, so, my build will stay in standby until last week ☹️ I'm very disappointed and sad tonight ...
rob Lyttle
Ah Man..... I don't know what to say.. 😱 There's no way back from acetone!! So sorry for the mishap. I'm wondering if you can clone the part for a whole new Talbot, but it's a bit complicated for that. Well, if anyone can scratch a clear windscreen for a second car it's you
JeroenS
Oh no that's terrible! I actually know the feeling so I sympathize greatly. When I was building the Fiat 500 I had painted the dash but wanted to start over, I wanted to dump it in IPA but accidently dumped it in cellulose thinner... well guess what happened? The dash got eaten alive and indeed I ordered a new kit which still sits in my cupboard minus a dash...
Paul H
That has got to be very disheartening... Is it worth separating the dashboard from the windscreen on this part, and then using flat acetate (or similar) for new glass, with a fabricated surround to hold them in place up against the main windscreen frame?

Thanks Paul It's an alternative that should be considered... I've ordered a new kit of this car and It's supposed to be delivered next monday I'm probably going to use the dash/windshield of this new kit to finish my Talbot. BUT, I'll probably intend to build a second one, with diffrerent colors for the body and the interior, perhaps with an opening trunk, using the damaged dash/winshield after a big plastic surgery Stay tuned for following steps Edited November 15, 2019 by CrazyCrank
CrazyCrank
Yippee ! My new kit has been delivered this morning, 2 days ahead of scheduled There's good and bad surprises: - Bad one: the frame of the windshield on the body has been hardly twisted on the right side. If I want to build a second model car with that, I'll have to untwist it previously 🙄 - pleasant ones: The crystal parts are much better than those of my first (very old) kit, and particularly the dash/windshield 😉, there's new decals to complete the gauges on the dashboard and the casting of the wheels seems much better, with thinner spokes, I believe 🤞 So, let's go for new adventures

CrazyCrank
The body and two parts of the bonnet has been wet sanded using Tamiya foam 3000, then 6000 and 8000 paper. From place to place, there was a lack of paint and the grey primer has appeared by transparency . So I've sprayed an ultimate wet coat of French Blue on these parts, and I'm happy with the result. It remains to wet sanding them very slightly with 8000 paper, to remove some dust and the brightness of the paint before clear coating , and then polish the body with Tamiya compounds, and finally apply Carnauba wax And now: new work on dashboard / windshield. But before, I've to clean my workbench and to store away all dangerous products to avoid making a mistake another time 😉 Stay tuned if you like Edited November 17, 2019 by CrazyCrank
CrazyCrank
Evening (morning ?) Gentlemen While the car body is drying, I've worked on the new set dashboard / windshield. I've spent all my Sunday to get an acceptable result, but it was worth the effort ...well, I suppose 🙄 The new kit went with new decals for the dashboard, which are very realistic . I've scratch built the auto-radio and the rear-view mirror....I'll stop here for the extra-detailing, because at this scale, it's a painful job, and moreover, you can't see it. Hereunder what I got finally: (the magnification provided by my camera brings out the defects, obviously, but with the naked eye, it's correct) Also, I've begun to work on the hood 😎 Stay tuned if you like and thanks for watching Edited November 17, 2019 by CrazyCrank

CrazyCrank
Evening chaps I didn't pay attention to this, but, this evening, while I was wet sanding 6000 the two half-bonnets , I noticed that there's a lot of blue-painted dust stuck between louvres, very difficult to remove, and which is more visible if you look at the bonnet from the rear. Moreover and more annoying, there is 2 micro-cracks on the left half-bonnet. Frankly very little cracks, but I'm worried about how they react when I sand the clear coats and polish them. One fear that they enlarge while doing that, or even that the half-bonnet break. I could live with this, if I'd no choice.....BUT I've a second kit ! So, I've decided to use the (excellent) new parts of this second kit to make a second and hopefully better bonnet . The plastic surgery to enlarge the grooves where will be stuck the piano hinges has been done, without any damage to the parts. All that remains now is priming the parts, and painting them with the Tamiya TS 10 spray can. After that, I could compare the two bonnets, and select for my Talbot the best of them Stay tuned if you like PS: the orange peel effect on the paint is strongly accentuated by the magnifying of the photos. With the naked eye, it's quite imperceptible.
CrazyCrank
Afternoon Chaps I've thought I could have more fun with this build intending to have an opening trunk....silly ? yes, absolutely ! As I've 2 kits, I've a spare body shell, so it's been possible to try an experiment 🙄 So, I've cut the trunk off the body using a scalpel, then I've glued on the body, from underneath, fine strips of 0.5 mm plastic card, to delineate (I'm not sure it's the appropriate word) the aperture on which will stand the trunk, and avoid it to sink in the boot of the car Next, I've scratched a hinge, using 0.7 mm copper wire, correctly shaped, and short sections of 1.3 mm brass tube, inner diameter 0.7 mm And I've got that, not so perfect than a real trunk, but quite convincing. I need to adjust the fitting of this opening trunk, in order it stands closer on the body Anyways there will be a working lock to close it (If I'm able to scratch it ?) And a little video: Obviously, now I've en enhanced body, I would like to use it to finish my model car, so, I've to sand it, prime it, paint it with a new Tamiya French Blue can, etc., etc. I think I deserve my nickname "Crazy Crank Stay tuned if you like and thanks for watching Edited November 20, 2019 by CrazyCrank 2

Instead, I'll put a spare wheel in the car boot and, if you become a wide man, perhaps I'll scratch a toolkit 😋
CrazyCrank
Evening gentlemen Trunk is now flush with the body, and has received its first layer or Alclad grey primer and filler : I've made tries with Mr Hobby Mr. Super Clear gloss clear, on the two half-bonnets of the first kit, those that were already French blue painted, and I'm a bit (a lot) disappointed: indeed, with this spray can, It has been impossible to avoid a strong orange peel effect. Of course, nothing impossible to manage with a good (strong) sanding, but, on the bonnets, with their louvres, it's difficult not to damage them while sanding, even if you do it carefully . However, I got, after sanding and polishing with Tamiya compounds, a fair result: It remains a little orange peel effect, but with the naked eye, it's correct. This was for the right half-bonnet. Unfortunately, for the left half-bonnet, exactly what I was worried about previously, has happened: one of the cracks is now much more visible on this part, and I can't use it as it is ☹️ So, I'm probably going to use the bonnets of the second kit, those I've already worked on yesterday , preparing them to receive my piano hinges . They have been primed and have received a first coat of Tamiya TS 10 French blue: A lot of work to do now on the new body, and I've to make tries with different gloss varnishes. One thing is sure: Il'll never again use a Mr Hobby spray can ! This body will be airbrush sprayed for the gloss clear coats... CrazyCrank
Evening Gentlemen I cannot spray anything today, neither outdoor because of the cold and humid weather, nor indoor because vapors are very toxic, and my grand-daughter Emma is at home this week-end. So, I've worked on the trunk, scratched a new floor, painted it matt camel brown, and then I've tried, for the first time of my long life as a modeler; to emboss this floor with flocking powder. This trunk is supposed, for my build at least, to host the spare wheel. Hereunder the result of my experiences: Not a very difficult job, but time consuming Stay tuned if you like
Spiny
I have to admit that I thought you were very brave opening up a boot on this, but it must be said that (as with the rest of the car) you've done a great job with it.

CrazyCrank
Morning chaps Barely awake, little job over my coffee, on the engine bay. On the real car: First, steel struts on each side, joining firewall and radiator, made of 0.6 mm piano wire : Next, a little weathering more on the engine, with some rust on the exhaust collector: More to come after the shower Stay tuned if you like

CrazyCrank
Afternoon, my friends Scratched the retaining system of the trunk when it's opened, 1 mm brass tube, 0.5 mm piano wire, CA gel, a pair of needle-nose pliers and several tries for adjusting the length of the system/ And now, a new challenge, a working trunk handle ....wait and see 🙄 Thanks for watching
