Tornado GR4 ZA412 Dambuster Anniversary Special

Hi Gents,

I wondered if anyone could possibly help me with some information about the rear seaters area in this aircraft please?

I've read that this one was a 'twin stick' 'trainer' GR4 which wasn't used on ops and I'm trying to find out what things were different in the back of this one compared to 'standard' GR4s?

I've got my own shots of her low-level in 2013 but can only make out the three MFD screen units (I can see into ZA492 as far as the small rear controller which I thought all GR4s had, but not into '412).

I know she was well photographed that year, but does anyone know of any rear cockpit shots please?

Thanks, Bob.

The instrument panel was different, a full set of pilots flight instruments meant that one of the LCD displays was removed and the centre console was a different shape. It slopes down on the port side I assume to give the rear seat a better forward view. There is photos out there, I’ll if I can find some.

Found these photo’s which show the top of the console......

That's briliant Muzz, thank you. I'd been trawling through sites and found some good videos showing that sloping left side console and yes on double checking in my shots, the left screen had gone.

That last shot is particularly useful and I'd not found that one, so a massive thanks for that.

Looks like if I wanted to do ZA412 and use the Euro decals on a 32nd scale model then, there'd be a bit of kit combining/scratching to do.

Thanks for the help, it's appreciated.

Cheers Bob.

Having worked on GR4s for a few years the trainers didnt look like that in the back. Mostly the same but they did not have the circle screen in the middle, they had one big rectangle screen then instead. Believe the circle screen is a GR1 thing. I did manage to work on Za492 for abit at Marham before it went off to RTP

Thanks for that too Motley.

Yes I've been looking at shots of ZA412 and it looks like it's got the right and left side panels as per the raspberry ripple one Mozz linked to, with the centre one looking like in this video

(you can see the instruments better when it's turned off the runway with the light coming from behind).

Cheers Bob.
