Jamie @ Sovereign Hobbies
US Navy 1950-1953 says the tag, which includes the Essex class and Midway class. The Midway was the first American carrier with an armoured flight deck like the British but I've little personal interest in the ships beyond that so I don't know if they also had timber planking above the steel. The Essex class were still planked then I believe.

Giorgio N
All Essex class carriers would have retained the WW2 style of deck. These carriers retained part of the wooden deck even after modernisation and the introduction of the angled deck. Midways were, as Jamie said, built with armoured decks, however pictures clearly show that the deck was timber covered, at least partially. Timber disappeared when the carriers received the angled deck
