F405 F-82 Twin Mustang - or is it?

I was browsing on the Bay of E and I came across the Chematic F-82 kit:

The price was very reasonable so I got it, not necessarily to add to this GB but as much for curiosity as anything else.  It arrived today:

The problem is, despite what Scalemates say, I'm not convinced this kit has its origins in the FROG mould. It looks suspiciously like the Monogram kit to me but I'm not an expect in either so I'll happily bow to the expertise here. This is what it looks like:

Looks like a nice enough kit on the sprue. Techmod decals too.

Happy to hear thoughts.

John,

I think you are right - there are parts such as the lower canopy frame and guns which I am pretty sure were not on my Frogspawn kit, which as far as I remember had one piece canopies. Looks like a nice kit though.

Here is a screen shot of the Monogram moulds from a modeling madness review/build.

Similar but not sure, looks like the same parts in the kit. However the parts trees have been rearranged some on the trees. Of note are the wing and fuselage parts.

A curiosity then, but probably not a FROG one. It looks like an original mould "inspired" by the Monogram kit.

Wasn't there something a few years back about Eastern European kits, a Hunter and a Javelin, that were assumed to be from FROG moulds but turned out to be originals?

Its not the FROG one... I've just dug mine out. Similar, and I think the Chematic one is probably based on it, but nowhere near as much detailing on the FROG mouldings

Yes, there was, but again, I think that was a case of reworked FROG moulds, or at least kits that were heavily based on them

Best as ever

Hi John.

My Chematic Javelin was assumed by many to be a modified Frog kit but it is completely different - recessed panel lines, nose cone part of fuselage not separate, different canopy, fuselage 1cm longer so FAW7 can be made OOB, different joining method for wings & vertical tail etc etc.. Scalemates confirm it is actually a new mould by Plastyk, whoever they were, Chematic certainly did a good few Frog kits, but also threw in some from other sources - I seem to recall a Hunter being ,mentioned somewhere as well, again Plastyk I think. They may well be loosely based on the Frog moulds but very heavily modified in the case of the Jav - never seen the Hunter.

It's an origin FROG, see the history:

and here is my once build:

I had used new decals by Revell, because, I bought it in the late 80's in the former Soviet Union, in Baku where it was produced.
