Marlin
Hi, and thanks for the tips IPMS19. Yesterday I had planned to finish the airintakes. But I ran into a heap of troubles to get it in place. 050 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr The opening was just too small to get the ramp and sides in place. So I spent some time sanding, carving and filing to get the opening enlarged. And when I finally got it to sit right I could only glue it in the back. I don't know if I did something wrong when gluing the ramp together, anyway I couldn't get the ramp to sit right without enlarging the opening. So as I couldn't continue with the intakes until the glue had set I took out the starboard fin and started to cut off the top antenna. This will be replaced by a resin antenna. 051 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Actually the resin antenna doesn't differ that much from the plastic one. Said and done. 052 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr This was an easy cut and replace job. I also added an extra small airscope to the based of fin. To be continued..... /Bosse 1

Marlin
Thanks IPMS19, Good to know that it wasn't a misstake on my behalf. I didn't know about the blister on the port fin, so thanks for pointing it out. I doesn't look that difficult to make. /Bosse
Alan P
You're really attacking this build, rapid progress! The cockpit came out very well, the decals worked as advertised. All in all this looks like a very nice kit, I'll be on the lookout for it. Alan
Marlin
Thanks Alan. It's a nice kit with few trouble spots so far. And with so large parts and subassemblies my progress might look a bit rapid, but it's far from it. And my speed always drops to a snails pace when I come to the painting step. Since I'm a brush painter everything takes longer time than air brushing. /Bosse
Marlin
Hi. Just another small update. I continued to struggle with the intakes yesterday and I have now got one of the in place (no pics yet) And then I glued most of the exhausts together. 053 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 054 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr They take up quite a bit of the fuselage. 055 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 056 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr To be continued..... /Bosse

As IPMS19 so kindly pointed out that I was missing an bulge/antenna on the port fin. This bulge/antenna isn't included in the CWS kit, so I took a bit of sprue of suitable size and sanded it down. 057 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And that was all I had time for yesterday. My wife and I have just discovered "Mindhunter" on Netflix. To be continued..... /Bosse
Marlin
Hi. I'm finished wrestling with the intakes. 058 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 059 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 060 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr The second one was much easier to get in place. Perhaps because I now was aware of the problems. I've also filled, sanded and polished up the bad joint on the underside of the wings. 061 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I hope the "ghost seam" will disapear under a layer of paint. This week I'll glue all subsections together and hopefully end up with something that looks like a MiG-25. To be continued..... /Bosse
exdraken
very nice progress! glad you found some solution for your intake troubles... actually from my experience the fit very well, but it is a bit troublesome to figure out how..... hope no major problems following from that! please try to dry-fit the cockpit section... the airflow diverters latch perfectly with the notch on the inner intakes! top and bottom joints are also defined by that! Marlin
Thanks Werner. I did notice this, but thanks for the tip. I think I'll glue the resin nose to the cockpit section first, and then add the whole nose/cockpit section to the fuselage. That was I don't have to work with the whole fuselage trying to fit the resin nose. We'll see in a day or two how it goes. /Bosse

Before my last 25 BM posted some days ago, I previously built three other without the smallest problem with this intake ,the right one, the left one fitting perfectly. Some distortion of the fuselage mould ,ducts parts or wheel wells ? I cannot tell.
Marlin
Hi IPMS19. Since this is my first ICM MiG-25 I don't have anything else to compare it to. But I got one RBF in the stash, and one PD on the ways. We'll see if the PD will have the same problem. But now I know what to look out for. /Bosse
IPMS19
It is an unexpected issue I didn't think having to care of owing to my previous experience with these kits..I do not know what to think of, have I done something wrong by excess of confidence? I can't tell.....
Marlin
Hi. Yesterday I started working with the resin nose. I had to carve out some excess resin on the inside to get it to fit. I also cut off some of the plastic to get a better fit. 062 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr It getting rather big now. 063 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And glued in place. 064 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And as it happens I'm home from work today nursing the seasons first cold. So perhaps I'll do some more building today. To be continued..... /Bosse

Marlin
Hi Yesterday I got the landing gears and the front sides in place. 065 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 066 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And then I ran in to trouble (again). The exhausts didn't fit as it sholud, so I had to dismantle them. Not particular easy, but I did get them apart again, without that much damages. 067 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr This time I blame Revell's rather unclear instructions. 068 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr You can see a hint of a ledge on the exhausts in this picture and a corresponding grove on the fuselage. 070 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr But the previous page dosen't show the ledge on the exhausts correctly. 069 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr So the plan for today is glue the exhaust in place as it should be. 071 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr To be continued..... /Bosse
Marlin
Hi. My work with the mighty 25 continues. I got the exhaust inplace as intended yesterday. I changed the sequence of the parts around somewhat to get the to sit as intended. First I glued the aft frame in place. 072 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Then the inner ring to the frame. 073 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And when that had set I glued the cans to the frame from the inside. 074 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr The outer ring will be glued on later when the fins are in place. Later on I could glue the "lid" on. 075 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 076 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Today I plan to get the fins and the rest of the exhaust on. Perhaps I'll manage to get the wings on as well. The I'm n for a sessions of fixing panel joints, sanding and puttying. To be continued..... /Bosse

Marlin
Hi. I've now got the "lids" on the intakes in place. 077 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I got some gaps on both sides as a result from the troubles I had mounting the intakes. 078 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 079 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr So I have to live with slightly bent "lids". Before I put this to bed last night, I filled the gaps with liquid sprue. So I plan to sand down these and some other joints this afternoon. And the I think it's time to glue the wings on.. Marlin
Hi. I got some more work done on the 25 this weekend. Some putty and sanding. 080 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr It was easier to do this before I glue the wings on. Then I put the knife to it and cut off the plastic ventral fins. 081 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I'm going to replace them with Cold War Studios resin fins. 082 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr But first I had to get the exhausts on. 083 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 084 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr After a bit puzzling I got the parts to sit as intended. 086 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 085 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And then I could glue the resin fins in place. 087 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 088 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr This evening I got some more sanding to do, and perhaps if I have the time I'll glue the wings on. To be continued...... /Bosse
Marlin
Hi. As planned I did some more work on the 25 last night. Some sanding and polishing, and the I glued the BM-specific antennas to the air intakes. 089 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 090 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr After that I glued the wings on. It was almost a perfect fit. I only had to enlarge the slots on the port side to get the wings to sit perfect. 091 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 092 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr This evening I have a hairline gap on the port wing to fil, and some sinkhole on the fuselage to fix. But after that it's time for primer. To be continued..... /Bosse

I had an hesitation to install them or built smaller ones from scratch but finally I've chosen to use them . At the end, after spreading the camouflage and weathering they don't look that conspicious
Marlin
Thanks IPMS19. I had the same thoughts. I did a quick google search but could find any clarifying pictures so I also decided to use them. /Bosse
