Saab Lansen — did it ever engage MiG fighters during the Cold War?

I guess it was normal for NATO countries to send a detachment to another NATO country. For example Portugal sent maritime patrol aircraft to Kiel-Holtenau AB or UK sent aircraft to Norway.

But what about capitalism?  What about the constant accounting of income and expenses?  After all, it is a big expense to send a plane from Portugal to the Baltic and return it back!  It should have been the other way around, because it is believed that under socialism money and expenses were not counted, but then why no one saw the planes of Czechoslovakia or the German Democratic Republic near Florida on Cuba?

🤔😁

Serge: I think you posted the best possible photo of president Brezhnev😉 Despite his best efforts president Putin just can't look that relaxed and powerful at the same time!

Absolutely agree!

Putin can never do like that:

Oh well Serge, I'm not familiar with NATO expense sharing policy. I guess the members put money on something and get money back on something else. And this all happens over a period of several years.

Where do you find those photos? They are getting better and better😉

Cheers,

Antti

Sorry for my ignorance but I was wondering if Saab Lansens of the Swedish Air Force ever engaged in mock dogfights or unfriendly encounters with Migs during the Cold War?  Did Swedish Lansen recon missions ever take place near the Soviet coastline? Thank you for any information.

I would say no. For these purposes, Swedish Air Force mostly used J 35 Draken fighters (and later Viggens). In fact, the J 32B Lansen fighter version was only in service as a fighter for a little more than a decade (after that a few were converted into target tugs and ECM aircraft, J 32D and J 32E).

Maybe a few recce missions were made by recce-Lansens (S 32C) in the early sixties, but since S 35E Draken came into service in the mid-sixties, this was the primary aircraft for this kind of missions until they were replaced by Viggens. The reason is of course that Draken could fly with double speed compared to Lansen, which could be useful during these missions...

But this is already some kind of planned economy!

😁

But a planned economy is a hallmark of socialism, because under capitalism everything must be decided by the "invisible hand of the market" (TM)😁 and not by some GosPlan (state planning)!*😁

J 32B Lansen in fact was equivalent CF-100, Javelin, F-89/F-94 e.t.c.? So, then there should be a photo of his intercepts Tu-16, Tu-95 e.t.c as well, as meetings with Soviet fighters.  They are?

O.K. as recce-Lansens (S 32C) was weak v.s. Soviet Air Defense in  peacetime ?

But was also A-32 with Rb.15...Has he never encountered the Soviet Air Force over the Baltic?

B.w. this has never happened and here again! 😁😁

Aircraft Russian Minister MoD & NATO F-18...and again Su-27( video from 13.08.2019):

It seems that NATO is reading this topic and now everyone rushed to take selfies with Shoigu (Russian Minister MoD)!

😁😁😁

* - in fact, I have a university degree in economics (b.w. the same "alma mater" with Khrushchev 😁)

, and I'm just making fun of stereotypes.

** - but there is some truth in every joke ... somewhere on the Britmodeler I published a photo of my grandmother along with Khrushchev....
