Yes........that one !

Hi everyone,

This is my first RFI over this neck of the woods.

One day I decided I wanted to build a car, more specifically an F1 car.  I duly snapped one up from a local auction site but the deal took ages to go through.  I still had this itch to build a car when my local got this kit in stock. I remember the days when Escorts were common as muck, and I always liked the Rothmans scheme (although better on Mantas and Hondas ) so I snapped this one up.

The issues with this kit seem to be well documented so I concentrated on the process of building a car rather than doing anything flash.  I did jack the back end up a bit to make it less squat but the springs are now quite visible. The camber on the back wheels is quite iffy as well. The paint was my first time using Tamiyas laquer paints (white and clear) through an airbrush I'm pretty happy with how they performed.

To be honest, I'm pretty happy with the way it all turned out and it was good practice for doing a decent car.......a Manta 400

Anyhoo, here it is.  Comments welcome

Cheers

It's hard to see here but I did fashion up some throttle linkages and a cable.

Great build

Doing one one of these myself as a clubman car, lots of flash and mould marks needed clean up before paint  😐

Lovely build Gaz.

I fancy attempting one of these kits but as you say their reputation proceeds them.

What were the decals like to apply.

Hi Chris

The decals were pretty good actually.  They are quite thick I reckon, but that made them tough and quite good for moving and aligning them.  They responded well to Microsol.  Also, I cut the ones over the wheel arches vertically to help them to conform.  I did have to paint touch up a couple of areas where there were small gas.

Superb! As a rally marshall in the day these were invincible on the stages.  The Irish (Eire) rally championships are rife with these now as they build new ones each year to compete in the series. Narrow tarmac lanes, just wide enough for one car. Exciting!

The “ issues “ with this kit pale into insignificance when you see a Rothmans liveried Mk 2 , built and finished really well like yours here . Most people  would never spot the mistakes . Most are just happy to see an iconic car in model form .

 Gary .
