Silver Spitfire - flight started 5 Aug 2019

I haven't seen any mention of the Silver Spitfire project on Britmodeller.

It has involved the rebuilding of a 1943 Spitfire into a demilitarised version, and the planning and (eventual) execution of a round-the-world flight.

The flight will take in many of the world's most famous landmarks and cover 27,000 miles over 4 months.

In the words of the website:

"The expedition will reunite the Spitfire with the many countries that owe their freedom, at least in part, to this iconic aircraft. The unmistakable sight and sound of this aircraft once again gracing the skies aims to inspire future generations more than eighty years after R.J. Mitchell’s timeless design first graced the skies."

The Boultbee Academy seem to be behind the enterprise. It sounds like a great adventure - and a worthy subject for a model replica.

They say on the website that the dates are subject to variation so do check the 'latest news' page once it's all under way.

It looks as if Huntington might work for you if you fancy making a day of it 😀

I didn't see that. It certainly looks the part in the various promo videos.

I think the idea of leaving it in silver is inspired, It really reveals the lines of the aircraft - and as they point out on the site, making it look less militarily provocative.

I must say their web site leaves a lot to be desired.

It could really do with a news feed giving information about present position etc. If anyone can find one on the site, please point me at it as it's evaded me.

There is a live flight tracker but I have no idea how accurate it is.

I posted this on another thread, but it flew over our house here in Northumberland on Monday evening after a stop-off at Newcastle Airport. Sounded very nice indeed!

Preceded by an escort/chase plane.

Can you imagine how she will look on getting home?  How much of the shine will be there?

bloomin' typical, I'm Erie the week before and the week after the 3 day visit.

Grrrrrrrrr

*edit*

well maybe not so much of a GRrrr now - it's the other Erie - a couple of thousand miles away (just as well I checked with the airport!)

That's it!

I'm going to do one.

There's been silver paint jobs and a prototype until now, but this is an opportunity not to be missed.

Been out for a bit of shopping...

Try as i might here in the U.S. the website keeps locking up. Does anyone know where the spitfire is as of right now ? The only update i can find is somewhere in N.Eastern Canada ? Several days behind schedule if accurate. Im trying to figure out if i can see the plane on the 18th in Indiana.
