bhouse
I haven't seen any mention of the Silver Spitfire project on Britmodeller. It has involved the rebuilding of a 1943 Spitfire into a demilitarised version, and the planning and (eventual) execution of a round-the-world flight. The flight will take in many of the world's most famous landmarks and cover 27,000 miles over 4 months. In the words of the website: "The expedition will reunite the Spitfire with the many countries that owe their freedom, at least in part, to this iconic aircraft. The unmistakable sight and sound of this aircraft once again gracing the skies aims to inspire future generations more than eighty years after R.J. Mitchell’s timeless design first graced the skies." The Boultbee Academy seem to be behind the enterprise. It sounds like a great adventure - and a worthy subject for a model replica. bhouse
Hi Dennis, I'm sorry to hear the map won't cooperate. It's working fine for me so I've copied and reformatted the list of US appearances below: 12 KTEB Teterboro USA 16/08/2019 2nights 13 KBVI Beaver County USA 18/08/2019 14 KHHG Huntington USA 18/08/2019 1night 15 KOOA Oskaloosa USA 19/08/2019 1night 16 KCZD Cozad USA 20/08/2019 17 KEIK ERIE – Denver USA 20/08/2019 3nights 18 KCOS Colorado Springs USA 23/08/2019 19 KCEZ Cortez Municipal USA 23/08/2019 20 KLSV Nellis AFB USA 23/08/2019 1night 21 KNFL Fallon NAS (Van Voorhis Field) USA 24/08/2019 1night 22 KMHV Mojave Air and Space Port USA 25/08/20191 23 KSMO Santa Monica Municipal USA 26/08/2019 4night 24 KHWD Hayward Executive USA 30/08/2019 25 KRDM Roberts Field USA 30/08/2019 1night 26 KPAE Snohomish County (Paine Field) USA 31/08/2019 4nights They say on the website that the dates are subject to variation so do check the 'latest news' page once it's all under way. bhouse
I didn't see that. It certainly looks the part in the various promo videos. I think the idea of leaving it in silver is inspired, It really reveals the lines of the aircraft - and as they point out on the site, making it look less militarily provocative. Work In Progress
Does anyone have any idea who this "Mr Decal" is? bhouse
I must say their web site leaves a lot to be desired. It could really do with a news feed giving information about present position etc. If anyone can find one on the site, please point me at it as it's evaded me. There is a live flight tracker but I have no idea how accurate it is. Brian
Simon
I posted this on another thread, but it flew over our house here in Northumberland on Monday evening after a stop-off at Newcastle Airport. Sounded very nice indeed! Preceded by an escort/chase plane. Simon
Paul J
How about this for a headline: https://www.theregister.co.uk/2019/08/05/silver_spitfire_takes_off_on_round_the_world_jaunt/ talks about it being 'slapped in chrome' at first then about the polished finish. It seems its on FR24.
Max Headroom
That’ll be a book and dvd to get when finished! I hope they keep it in that scheme afterwards. It’s certainly an eyecatcher. Trevor

hendie
bloomin' typical, I'm Erie the week before and the week after the 3 day visit. Grrrrrrrrr *edit* well maybe not so much of a GRrrr now - it's the other Erie - a couple of thousand miles away (just as well I checked with the airport!) The only update i can find is somewhere in N.Eastern Canada ? Several days behind schedule if accurate. Im trying to figure out if i can see the plane on the 18th in Indiana.
