DONE! The only EE Lightning to see the combat - RSAF F.53, Airfix 1/48

Recommended Posts

Hi comrades!

My next project will be Airfix Lightning in 1/48. I have F.6 boxing and I will build the Saudi F.53 model in NMF. Why RSAF - because they use Lightnings in real combat over the Yemen, why NMF - this is the livery of every RSAF Lightnings most of their service life.

Combat load will be underwing Matra 155 rocket pods. The pods will be from Reskit, pylons will be scratch built, dedicated sources - here:

The model will be riveted (it means the long build), otherwise NMF will look wrong

Planned aftermarket:

Engine nozzles - Aires

Seat - Quickboost

Pitot - Master

Cockpit - Eduard old (not painted) brass

Wheels - Armory

Decals - Model Alliance

REferences - internet, book "on target" and Ukrainian "Aviation and Time" magazine with riveting drawing

Hi,

Is there any progress on this?

Hi,

Now busy with the Javelin build. Only ordered aftermarket parts - nozzles, etch, seat, Matra 155 and gathered some info about the underwing pylons.

Hi comrades!

Project resurrected!

So far assembled fuselage halves in preparation to riveting.

Pilons for Matra rockets done, next-I shall adapt them to the Reskit details.

You could have got the Odds And Ordinance set from Ally Cat rather than scratch building a set of pylons, wouold have included the Matra pods as well if this was a 1/72 build which I just realised this isn't

Thank you!

Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with any aftermarket set of pylons for the Lightning. Matra pods are more available, I bought the ResKit set.

Great status!

Never seen that done before!

Thank You!

If it of any interest, I'll put here photos of the finished and riveted pylon with ruler/millimetric paper.

Hi comrades!

So far, the pylons finished and painted (with associated Matra pods). The size of pylons here is referenced to the millimetric paper.

Adopting the Aires wheel wells was pain, but it's over.

Now - to the riveting!

Hi comrades!

Riveted.

More rivets and corrections on fuselage shall be done after the two fuselage halves assembly.

Now it's time to stuff the body

Hi comrades!

Fuselage stuffed, ballast added and the balance checked.

Some additions from scratch and aftermarket added.

Main assembly completed and riveting done.

Next-various antennas preparations, and to the primer!

Holy God.

Close to perfection, I like the modulation of the metal surface and also the riveting is very well done.

Thanks for sharing, made a big boost on my interest to Lightnings (again....)

Thank You, Laszlo! It's not perfect, but definitely, my best NMF effort up today))

That NMF and the rivets are superb.

The wing tip lights look very good, are they the kit parts?

Thank You!

The wingtip lights are the kit parts, but drilled from inside and painted to produce the "colored lamp" appearance
