Italien/Axis 109G's

Hi all

What allied aircraft would have italien or indeed Pro Axis county's gone up against? I am thinking later Spitfires or P51?

Reason why asked I was going to do a 109G14 in Italian markings and wouldn't mind doing an Adversary to go by its side. So any insight would be great

P80A Shooting Star? I think only a couple made it to Italy for evaluation purposes during 1945, so maybe not actual adversaries of Axis 109s, but could be included at a push.

Two Groups of the Italian ANR received the Bf.109.

1° Gruppo caccia: training started in November 1944 in Germany and the unit became operational on the type in January 1945 with G-14 and G-10, all new production aircraft.

2° Gruppo caccia received their first 109s in May 1944. These were G6 coming from Luftwaffe units in Italy with a mix of original and tall rudder.

In August 1944 the Luftwaffe ordered the end of any ANR activity but this order was revoked in late September. At that point a few more G6s were delivered, apparently from the factory. The Group then received their first G14s in late November 1944. G10s followed later and the group also had a couple of G12 for training.

 

The above means that really the true G14s were in service starting in December 1944, and any allied aircraft encountered would have been one of those still operational over Italy by that date. The ones most likely would have been the Spitfire Mk.VIII and IX, the P-51 B,C and D and the P-47D. Tall tail G6s were used by 2nd Gruppo a bit earlier, and from a modelling point of view they are quite close to the G14.

In reality the main task of the ANR 109s was the interception of allied bombers, therefore the fighter they'd have met would have been the ones escorting bomber formations, so mainly P-47D and Mustangs. The best adversary would be a B-24 as these were very often met by ANR fighters
