M3talpig Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Stunning builds and looking at the interior shots the exteriors should be a real pleasure to behold ...can't wait to see the finished models Steve 1
vaoinas Posted September 19, 2020 Author Posted September 19, 2020 Thanks, everyone Now, both of them are painted, washed with different oils and chipped. I did them one at the time and got very very slight difference in the color at the end. Both of the track sets are also burnished. They may look a bit too rusty at the moment, but I think pigments and sanding will tune the reddish appearance down considerably. And here are most of the details that are separately worked with. Thanks, Kristjan 13
vaoinas Posted October 4, 2020 Author Posted October 4, 2020 Hi Probably my last update before finishing the project. The pigments are now slapped on the models. Most of the tools are glued on too. Stowage on the engine deck are yet to be added, but tarps are already there. I made these using Tamiya Epoxy Putty and it got stuck on the model while it hardened. So it had to be carefully masked and painted. Well yeah... here are the photos. Cheers! Kristjan 10 1
Stef N. Posted October 4, 2020 Posted October 4, 2020 Those tracks have turned out really well. Looking forward to see everything joined together.👍 1

A question of ease of painting in the factory i would think....the red oxide primer would have been painted on a lot of assemblies before they were fitted to the tank, but once fitted certain parts like between the wheels would have been very awkward to paint the final grey......so they probably wouldn't have bothered. Ron NL-S Posted October 7, 2020 Posted October 7, 2020 I always figured that parts were painted before assembly. especially early on when there was both time and materials to do so. 1

D The "E" version had some major changes compared to the earlier versions. You might want to look out for that. I can't find good references for the insides of the previous versions. For example, the Ausf.E had an intercom. So there was an amplifier box on the rear wall. It had space for a complete radio - receiver and transmitter - in both sponsons. A standard Stug would normally have the complete radio in the left sponson. But the photo set you're (probably) looking at is a platoon command vehicle, so its main radio is in the right sponson and the second receiver is in the left. I wrote about the radios in Stugs A to D David Edited September 6, 2021 by DByrden The target page moved

Did you see that in a photo? David Edited September 7, 2021 by DByrden Clarity
edjbartos Posted September 6, 2021 Posted September 6, 2021 Well done Kristjan, both look really superb....👍 Ed 1

Did you see that in a photo? David Hi, David! As you said the interior of these early StuG's are depicted sparsely on available photos. When building my models I used whatever info I could get interiorwise, including several photos of later versions of these short barrel Stugs. The intercom mount was suggested by Aber Interior PE set I used. It can also be seen on one of the photo of (probably) Ausf.E interior without anything mounted on it, so I just added this detail without thinking much further.
