A lot of work on the paintjob but heading for a stunning result :speak_cool:

Cheers Col. The painting wasn't too bad with the masks et al, just time consuming.

Very impressive work Dave!

Having an Eduard boxing and Foxbot masks / decals in the stash, can I clarify your painting stages:

  1. Spray the whole upper surface grey
  2. Apply masks to cover the grey and then spray dark blue where not masked
  3. Apply masks to dark blue, remove the small sections in the grey and dark blue masks that need to be light blue and then apply light blue ie does the light blue have dark blue underneath?

Regards

Mike

Cheers Mike. Yes, that's right - I painted it in the following stages;

1. Overall primer

2. Dark grey for nose cone, tail fin tops etc then mask (I used the excellent New Ware set)

3. Upper surfaces in light grey - apply relevant Foxbot mask

4. Dark blue - apply relevant mask

5. Blue

6. Light blue undersides

The instructions with the masks aren't the easiest to follow and it does seem strange to spray light over dark but went on fine in the end.

More done today and we're nearly there. Flat coat (Mr Paint) went on first thing this morning and left to cure for a few hours. Once set, I added the landing gear, missiles, ejection seat, removed the windshield masking, added the exhausts and popped on the pitot tube.

Semi Gloss black for the IRST lens.

I went over the metallic exhaust areas with the following:

Dry brushed Tamiya XF-16 (Flat Aluminium)

Air brushed a mixture of clear blue and clear orange

Mixture of Tamiya weathering powders - Titanium, Light Gun Metal, Soot and oil.

Looks better in person as opposed to the camera. Maybe a touch more silver is needed.

Just have to finish off and add the canopy. I'm really quite pleased with how it's turned out. By far my favourite scheme for the Su-27! I've even gone and bought the digital masks for a Ukrainian Mig-29 and Su-24... watch this space.

Hoping to have this RFI come Sunday lunchtime.

Plenty more pictures in RFI thread here

As always, thanks to those who commented/followed the build. I'll be doing a 'digital' Su-24 and Mig-29 very soon. I also plan to build more Flankers, possibly using the Hobbyboss Kit or I might wait to see what GWH or Kittyhawk do;

Su-27P (Russian)

Su-27 (Uzbek)

Su-27UB (Eritrean)

Su-30 (Chinese)

Su-30MKI (Indian)

Su-30MKM (Malaysian)

Su-30MKA (Algerian)

Su-30SM (Russian)

Su-33 (Russian)

Su-35 (Russian)

Cheers

Dave

Thanks Werner.

I’ve already built an Indonesian, Vietnamese (years ago) and Venezuelan -30MKK.

Might re-do the Indonesian one as I do like the paint scheme.
