Hobbyboss 1/48 FW 190D-9

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I haven't built many aircraft kits however the more I build the more I seem to get hooked on them. This kit is pretty straight forward to build and in my opinion good value for money. Built out of the box, like all my builds I thoroughly enjoyed it. I have put more effort into the pics and must admit they look better on a landscape than in front of my spray booth. Presenting my finished kits correctly came from a couple of constructive comments made to me on a previous build and though these are not perfect they are miles better I think.

Thanks for viewing,

Hi

This is a nice weathered build but if I remember well the FW 190 D had wooden propellers.

Cheers.

Patrick

Your probably right my mistake thanks

That is a very creditable effort, looking quite convincing. Good work!

However, prop blades don't "wear" along the trailing edge so those silver smudges would be misplaced even if not, as others have said, the Junkers V111 prop blades were made of wood. Research… 😉

Kind regards,

Joachim

Fair comment I've been concentrating a lot on improving my painting and weathering skills and not so much on research however lesson learnt from now on 👍

Nice job you have done there. The pictures are looking good too.

Thank you, I haven't built many aircraft so I'm going to allow myself the odd mistake my next build is an ME 262 so no props to worry about 👍

If you mean Me 262A-2a/U2 which is the one with the glass nose. You may not have a problem with the nose area that the fighter and normal bomber has. However, I will mention it anyway. The nose problem is caused by the nose gear housing part lugs that fit into the fuselage sides. These are a fraction too long. This causes a problem when you try and fit the top cowel because the part appears to be a fraction to small to fit correctly. This is because the lugs have spread the fuselage halves. You will need to test fit the assembly before you glue anything. Other than the cockpit which is best assembled  before you do the test fit. Also you may have to sand down the top parts of the bulkheads a bit so the fuselage closes easily.

I got around this problem by reducing the housing's lugs just a little bit.  The problem is on both metal and plastic parts.

The other issue is the wing to fuselage joint. To get the wing to fit flush with the fuselage. You need to tweak both parts. Once again this is just a little bit.

Other than that they are great kits.

If you want to see more on this have a look at my builds on the Specialists Group build. I did the recon and the bomber.  Because of the above mentioned nose problem I had to bin my first bomber build and start again . This is because the problem didn't appear until I had glued all the nose parts together. I tried to sand it to shape,  but it looked real bad. I hope that helps. I will be building your one soon. They are excellent looking planes.
