billn53
Your NMF panel shading looks great! I had a terrible experience using Stynylrez primer on my current YB-35 build. The Stynylrez lifted right off the plastic, taking my NMF with it, and I was using de-tacked tape.
fubar57
Looking good. My 2¢ about Vallejo Metal Colors or any Vallejo paints for that matter. I don't use primers and just spray right on the plastic. I then let the model set for a minimum 24hrs. I then de-tack the bejaysus out of the Tamiya masking tape and apply. I've sprayed three 1:48 fighters solely with Vallejo and maybe had 2²mm of paint lift in total. I can blame most of this on my being in a rush and quickly removing the tape. I've had far more paint lift using Tamiya paint.
Pete in Lincs
And doesn't it look good in silver? Shapewise it looks like it was meant to be. Pete

I've been using Stynylrez since UMP started marketing it here in the UK and I can honestly say I don't think I'll use anything else, until the next "big thing" comes along!? rgds John

Post-it notes are great for "soft" masking as they don't stick with any real adhesion, so as long as you're careful when you spray, i.e. always spray away from the mask, you shouldn't have any bleed or other issues, still keep your fingers crossed just in case. rgds John

shortCummins
Various vallejo acrylic metal colors go to make the completed NMF The anti-glare panel was masked, after the Tamiya tape had the bejaysus de-tacked out of it, thanks for the advice fubar, and Mr Hobby Olive Drab H052 was sprayed. Next I’ll be adding some colour, wing tips, tail markings and (sort of) “invasion stripes” type thingy, you'll see. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)

shortCummins
So I was looking for some interesting paint schemes that I could adapt (steal) for my version of the Rat Bird. You’ll notice from Christian’s painting that he’s got the main airframe as a grey colour or variations of grey, I’m guessing that for artistic purposes he wanted to make the exhaust appear chrome so I’m interpreting his grey scheme as NMF. Anyway its too late now as I’ve already painted it. I’m still toying with the idea of having a checkered nose as I’d like to try painting one however, I really like the battered red nose Christian had depicted, I still have a little while to make my mind up, perhaps I’ll build a “normal” P-47 with a checkered nose at a later date? There are some interesting schemes for the P-47, one I like is the yellow and black striped tail of “High Cover” and “Some Punkins” from the Zotz decal set. Another scheme that I like is these with a yellow band on the tail, as the wing tips are going to be yellow this could be just the ticket. At the same time I stumbled across this photo. I also like “invasion stripes” and whilst they wouldn’t be appropriate for this model, it’s a “fantasy” after all, I thought that I could somehow combine the yellow/black and turn them into my version of invasion stripes, albeit “invasion chevrons”? I’ve an idea that yellow/black stripes were used for the Suez crisis? so, the other day I noticed some red/yellow arrow stripes on some machinery at work and thought that scheme is just what I’m after. So to start these colours I masked off the wing tips and tail and gave then a coat of Hobby Color H329 yellow FS12538. Whilst I had the yellow to hand I set up for the “invasion chevrons” by first spraying the yellow. Once the yellow of the “invasion chevrons” had dried I masked for and then sprayed the red Hobby Color H3. I’ll need to touch-up here and there so after that I’ll make a start on the engine. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)

Pete in Lincs
Invasion chevrons? Who'd have thought? I like it. You mentioned Japanese, Does it have to be American? What about a special export gull winged fighter for a Southern Pacific nation?, Or China? Never mind the nose, why not a chequered wing? (Easier to mask too!) Maybe the next one, eh? I like the yellow bits. Could the odd panel be painted as if it was salvaged from another aircraft? Keep on keeping on. Pete
Thom216
Those chevrons add a real nice touch. It is certainly a different look.

Pete Thanks Pete the Japanese or American markings, well I'm going with neither, I'm going to have a go at making my own decals and I'm going to use this... ...as the "national" markings I like the idea of a chequered wing, I saw a scheme with the tail and rear wing chequered, as you say idea's for the next one. I'd thought about have the odd panel in camp', I still might do that, another idea is to use an old metal sign, Christian's used a STOP sign on P-Dirty 8, so I might do something along those lines, perhaps an old Guinness sign? I'll see how the home made transfers come out. rdgs John

shortCummins
I decided that the yellow on the tail needed something else, so I added a thin black stripe top and bottom. painting the engine The various parts the go to build the engine were give a coat of UMP/Stynylrez black primer. The inside of the cowling was given a coat of Tamiya XF-4 yellow green. Then bottom part of the inside of the cowling was given a coat of Hobby Colour H53 neutral gray. as was the air intake? and gearbox cover. Engine cylinders were painted vallejo 77.701 aluminium Not sure what these bits are, anyhow they were also given a coat of the 77.701, the Tamiya instructions say they should be semi-gloss black. The gearbox cover was detail painted with Tamiya XF-69 NATO black and Mr Metal Colour 215 copper. Next I’ll be assembling the engine with some very minor additions. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)
fubar57
Good stuff John. I need to get some of that Stynylrez black primer, I've heard it helps with NMF. Interesting marking you've chosen. It took me a few minutes to figure out where I'd seen something very similar before but then I was hit by a '70s flashback. For the younglings out there, this is called a 45 rpm adapter. In the waybackwhen, we had these things called vinyl records and scratchy music came off them. The above adapter fit into the center of the 45 rpm record to allow it to sit on the narrow spindle of the record player.........back to you John

Pete in Lincs
Like the stripes on the yellow. They stand out better now. I like the marking you've chosen too. Again it looked sort of familiar and then @fubar57 hit the nail on the head. (Smartypants of the day award to him!) 7 hours ago, shortCummins said: perhaps an old Guinness sign?
