Revell Santa Maria 1:90/Need help!

Hi there. As per the title I'm about half way through the Santa Maria and going to need some help and advice to see me over the finish line I think. 

Whilst i learn better visually rather than reading directions.... ... These instructions are a bit cack are they not lol.

They don't give much away do they, apart from "Use fine thread" in 15 different languages for 3 pages. Not really sure what goes exactly where, from the pics.

 

First bit I'm not sure of is this part.... The dreaded thread.

 Do I feed thread through the holes and leave it hanging at bottom and I just glue the hull parts etc together ? And do these hanging bits then attach to the two anchors that will be at each side? (I think that's what I've to do lol)

Does that sound about right?

Also. I'm sure I read a tip about using beeswax to help manage the threading etc.
But could I use a tiny bit of coconut butter instead?

Your picture seems to show the stern of the ship. In which case it is the sheet for 1 of the sails, probably the main sail. Beeswax is the traditional treatment for thread to stop it becoming furry over time. I don't know if coconut butter would work, also is might rot.

 

Having said all that my dad made the Billings Santa Maria kit(a wood kit in about 1/72nd scale) many years ago, and I don't remember the sheets fitting into the hull in that way. I'll grab some photos of the model in a day or 2.

Afaik I have to connect the two parts of hull. Couple of bits at each side for the rigging to attach to. 

Then the masts. 

 

I'll upload some photos of where I'm at later tonight hopefully. 

Will explain things better than a screenshot of a pdf to be fair. 

 

This is my first kit if you hadn't guessed already which explains the noobness somewhat haha.

I've had a look at my dad's model and the thread in the hull is, as I suspected the sheet(control rope) for the main sail. I've not taken any photo's yet.

Dont be confused. This is definitely the Santa Maria kit. I just didn't like the look colour scheme etc of the finished example. So went with my own

And as you can see I've went to town with Citadel Earthshade wash.

I'm pretty happy with it so far though.

Quite a convinient backdrop right? It's my dogs coolbed for hot days!

So yeah I'm pretty sure I feed the thread thorough the hull. Then out the other side of the other hull?
