sennapod
Hello all, I've just seen this kit announced as an Italeri boxing. Does anyone know if this is actually the Tamiya kit (do Tamiya license their kits?), or what the history of this kit is? (Scalemates doesn't have any info) Edit#2 - just rechecked Scalemates at bit deeper, and it seems this IS the ex-Tamiya yet. I never knew Tamiya did this..... malpaso
Italeri often work with ex-Protar kits. One of several defunct Italian model companies' products they reissue or rework. That's what their RE20 new kit is. https://www.spotmodel.com/product_info.php?products_id=52353&language=en Protar were well regarded, lots of detailed components and different materials. I've only seen a damaged Protar Ferrari 312T which you could see even so was well-detailed. Protar kits weren't cheap. They're not cheap now. I don't know how the Italeri re-pop will differ from the original. Cheers Will PS Scalemates needs to be seen with a very, very jaundiced eye. A useful quick check, but not to be fully trusted. Like any wiki it's only as informed as the people posting in it. Edited July 13, 2019 by malpaso Scalemates
Schwarz-Brot
I know for sure there was some licensing action with tamiya going on. There was the subaru world rally team truck & Trailer boxed with a bug-eye Impreza which I happen to own. The Subi is the original tamiya kit sans box. Truck and Trailer are Italeri. Funny, or embaressing is the huge difference in quality between Truck and Trailer compared to the car. But this shows it is not unlikely for Italeri to license from Tamiya.
AlEmu
Italeri/Protar kit is well detailed but pure fit. Italeri reissue is fully plastic, not multimaterial (except tyres). Mold quality is inferior to Tamiya.
