Fokker F.XII, scratch, 1/48

Recommended Posts

Dear modellers,

I like to show you another airliner in the thirties; this time the Fokker F.XII.

Ten aircraft were ordered by the KLM/KNILM for operations on the Amsterdam to Batavia route.

The first service began in Amsterdam on 5 March 1931 and arrived on 14 March 1931.

The aircraft was used regulary on the route, starting on the 1st of October 1931.

In 1932 the KLM started to use the larger Fokker F.XVIIIs on the route and the F.XII were then

used for European destinations.

I found some nice videos, please have a look:

I think the last video is very interesting !

I hope you enjoy this topic

With kind regards

Great job !  I love those old Fokker airliners and hope I will build some, one day.  Some years ago, I got some good plans of the F.XVIII from the Dutch model engineering society, but haven't yet found some good enough ones of the F.XII.

Thanks for the videos, especially of the DDL plane, which is the version I am mainly interested in.

Have two Super Universals I am working on and will post some photos soon.

Regards, Roger

A very fine piece of modelling, John. I love the KNILM light blue colour, it adds some subtle elegance to these otherwise sturdy airliners.

Those were the times, when you just walked over to your flight and they took off from where they stood...

Great job - where from do you take all the time needed for scratch-building?

Cheers, Michael

Dear fellows,

Thanks for all your replies !

For Roger, it gives me much pleasure to read, that you love those old Fokkers too.  There is a good book with 3-view drawings:  Fokker- The Man and the Aircraft written by Henri Hegener.  It was published in 1961 by Harlyford Publications Ltd.

Maybe you can find it somewere secondhand on the internet.

I managed to make a scan of the drawings, but I dont know how to include the PDF- items here. May be you can send me a PM ?

Further I found this:

I'm curious how you build those Super Universals !

For Michael;

Yes time, where do we find it, lots of it......😁 Fortunately I retired 6 years ago, before that, I always spent 2 houres in the evening for my hobby, an excellent medicine for a stressfull job.

Cheers,

JohnHaa

Thanks John.  I have the Harleyford book and know it very well . In my opinion, the drawings in it are 'so-so'. Some of them look ok as a starting point, but others aren't so good. I am very 'fussy' and try to obtain the best drawings possible.

But thanks very much for the link to the OY-DIG plan. That looks like a good basis !

I sent you a message about the Super Universal via the BM message feature.

Regards, Roger

Roger,

Glad I could help you and you are right, the drawings sometimes leave a bit to desire, despite that I managed to build my model out of this book..🙂 Most important is you get the overall dimensions right, the details have to come from photographs.

I remember building my Universal and Super Universal, that there some strange contoures in the fuselages.

Regards,

That's a stunning model, John ! Didn't see a work in progress thread, if I've missed it, please forgive any silly questions......like are the engine nacelles and the area forward of the cockpit silver-foiled ?

If not, it's damn good painting !

Loved the video clips. What was the aircraft PH-OST ? Not one I'm familiar with......WE NEED A MODEL !

Great way to interest children in aircraft - have them picking up parachute-test dummies. Looked like he came off second-best !

Lovely stuff !

Thanks for your kind words...!

For Rog,

Not a silly question, I think,  😀.  I'm always glad to share my knowledge with other modellers.

Indeed, the nacelles and the forward part of the fuselage are clad with self- adhesive aluminium tape. Excellent stuff, you can use it for a lot of purposes.

I build this model the same way as the Fokker Super Universal.  Only with two more engines..😉

Your question about the PH-OST.

A one off aircraft with a rather sad history:   the Pander Postjager.

Please have a look at this Wikipedia- link ,where you can read the whole story;

With kind greetings,
