Some sort of masonic scoring system for the Eurovision song contest?

Terry

Nothing so dramatic I'm afraid Terry. Merely the results of the Brum IPMS August comp. Fair result all round Bill.

As discussed with Bill today, and for the benefit of all viewers, the interior really does look so much better in real life. Depth of field and camera technicalities really do understate how good it looks.

Ced I have a higher opinion of your imagination mate, anyway thank you very much for that

In my time away from the keys I have been keeping in touch with my 'inner modeller' by practising with my newest toy

Moulding in my jury rigged  vac former rig has always been hit and miss due to using a gas blowtorch to provide the killing heat needed to soften the PETg or acetate

Some right rubbish has ensued so I decided to push out a little rowing boat and hit the bay for an electric heat blower/paint stripper

This one

p.jpg

It has two speeds and heat intensities and works like a dream, I love it

Next up of course was to try it out

I have one A4 sheet left of the PETg I bought a couple of years ago to practice on so I popped it into my vac rig, added six new drawing pins to hold both halves and the sheet in place then let rip

PETg you may remember lets out dozens of little bubbles inside but we have had  the benefit of Steve doing experiments and discovering that pre warming the sheet first allows the application of higher heat later a safe easy process so I gave it a bash

What happened?

Well first I got this

P1010042-1.jpg

And when I lifted the mould off I got this

P1010040-1.jpg

The heat removed the milliput former out of the kit moulding

And shows why it would have been folly to attempt using the kit moulding on a decent model

Can you see how deep those mould ejectors are?

Never remove them in a month of Sundays

But look how well prewarmed PETg has taken to the process, no included bubbles at all as far as I can see

I am going to redo the moulding again in .22 mm acetate too, to see how far the new heater can push the process

Fun this isn't it

Not only fun but pretty damn good I would say.

Terry

PS resisted temptation to characterise the milliput former this time as I think it really does speak for itself!

I might just send it to you for experiMENTAL purposes when I've done with it

I hope Gill realises its not my fault...

(You noticed they're on the inner recurved face, wow)

The canopy might be the death of this project yet Chris, though I hope not

We'll have to see, here is this mornings effort made from 0.22mm acetate sheet

IMG-20190828-WA0002.jpg

IMG-20190828-WA0004.jpg

It makes a very clear unit but is very susceptible to dust incursion, working on that now and also I am not very happy with the way Matchbox made the front bubble sit either side of an unnecessary protuberance so I am working on moulding a complete bubble instead which will only need fairing in across  the entire front instead of 'stepping' it

I am quite sanguine about this

But

Lo, what approaches from the north?

P1010046_(1).jpg

Hmm

Might need a few of these before

Excellent idea. Last of our house guests have departed today (peak number was 14 guests sleeping over), so now I get hobby space back. Karen and I plan to visit our local within the next hour, with return leg entirely unplanned as yet!

Happy modelling!

I hope yours were as good as mine

Four pints of ABK Pilsner  aka ABK Fels before a name change recently  :)

Right, seems to me it is time I started populating the flight deck area

P1010049-1.jpg

the new nose transparency seems ... transparent enough to me

P1010052-1.jpg

Some more to trim off the upper section and I have removed the unnecessary front underneath extension and carried the transparency across the gap

Looks far easier to make a smooth front end now

P1010053-1.jpg

As we used to say in the motor trade, that'll buff out

I tried moulding from 0.22mm and 0.44 acetate, very flakey results so I attempted with the last pair of PETg blanks I had left and got the above

Some pictures of the Vacformathon follow

Taken on my Samsung J3 the process is as followses

Henry a'rarin' to go

20190829_131621.jpg

The (un)patented Vacformathator

20190829_131819.jpg

A box of MDF sheet with holes drilled in one face and an ingress point for the Henry's infiltrator

A pair of holes attached to a pair of MDF sheet pieces which are in turn attached to each other by a supersophisticated complex simple hinge

(OK Gaffa tape)

20190829-131918.jpg

And which then gets a sheet of the vacforming sacrifice sheet held together by a set of cunningly located drawing pins

when closed up

20190829-132227.jpg

All this time the power is off

20190829-132412.jpg

But now we need electrickery

20190829-132431.jpg

The Henry is turned on and running on its tod, sucking away at nowt for now

And the buck is set up for maximum draw depth, here there is a thick MG Midget suspension washer tipping the groove to the right place

20190829-132524.jpg

The intention is to kid the PETg that its an easy ride down both (all) sides of the buck and get the undernose curve right and the screen crease where the nose meets the windows right  too

This was a piece of thin acetate failing because I got the locating pin positions wrong

Oops

20190829-132753.jpg

The plastic has been heated by the blowlamp, which I must say has been a revelation

Oh how I wish...

This is the moulded piece I am using

20190829-133817.jpg

Worked a treat and is now being removed from the moulding device

20190829-131951.jpg

All in all quite an easy job, hope you liked it

I am considering a primer for some parts of this build a bit earlier than I might have, pencil marks for carving away places for etch will be better seen on a coat of primer and on the surface work calls out for similar attention.

Can anyone advise, will I need a thinner if I try out Stylnrez?

Pristine. Be happy to get near to that standard myself any day of the week Bill. That looks exquisite. 👏

Similar here but 0.4 at 25. Whatever, it settles beautifully :)

I was probably a tad close and pressure a tad high but  all in all I am happy enough with this to act as a base for the 'etch act' that I can draw on

15671732130102516842939619144866.jpg

I needed to thin those mount bases massively to allow the engine pods to sit properly recessed, probably the worst fit I have found on this venerable model and I doubt it will show up massively when it is all painted

Thanks for the guidance
