perdu
On second thoughts maybe How about using the ludicrous round holed filter meshes as sacrificial offerings? They are certainly unusable for their primary role 😕
perdu
Let us see Slightly overscale but not too bad methinks, now, oval sprunner...
perdu
It isn't oval it is round, now sorted but awaiting camera time A trifle hectic around here at the mo' and I have to dash out Fitted this morning too, the heat exchangers which on my model the casings have been removed and the nobby things front and back Just going round the airframe too with the cutter putting in hand hold/steps etc Checking too for the mount rails atop the fuselage by the aft pylon, I can only see one not the pair I expected that allow the filters to slide forwards Oh well catch you later, busy day...

perdu
Hello anyway Ian I think the pictures might be back from Boots, shall we have a look? Here, looks like they missed the ones of Aunt Maud on the beach at Brean Perhaps the fact she was changing into her bikini behind the screen on a blowy day upset the lady in charge... Anyway, still above the tail warning ( I presume) bit attached and the heat exchanger looking devices both sides of the tail (at the time of the pictures. ZA714 has the full complement of boxes and stuff attached nowadays) So on to the front end Posing again on my custom model stand Now I think this picture shows the windows again but this time with cuts away from the masking modified Now I have to build up the two nose pitot locations, I am using blobbed and shaped superglue to make the mounting point more prominent Laters again guys, there's filing afoot 6

perdu
Some hurried repairs, hoping mere tidying up will cover the fail... I had to remove the AN/ALQ Device bracket from the base of the engine, hope that will go back OK later Cross 'em guys please
perdu
Praise the recuperative powers of PPP to allow quick quiet filling where danger lurks with smelly filler As we are now a no-whiff household, PPP gives me an excellent out whenever I need one Humbrol or Green Stuff putties are undoubtedly tougher but not what I need just here and now
Brandy
A "no-whiff household". That's an interesting, and dare I say it, next to impossible, philosophy. No Brussels sprouts with the roast then! Ian
perdu
Oh we can make smellies if we are using nail varnish remover, powerful bleaches and anionics Oh yes we can make smells then, oh yes But try for a whiff of Humbrol or Colourcoats, Tamiya Acrylics are no no too Oh well, there are battles I need to win, these I don't Off down the pub in an hour, let's see how that goes huh
perdu
Happy enough with this now, even though it looks a mess The bracket and gear boxy bit will now allow the kit filter to sit close enough to the engines And the white mess actually wipes away with a damp tissue leaving the filled bits I wantedwanted The AN thingy bracket upper unit is now back in place and I am building in the greeblies (©Alan) for the outsides Under the nose are a pair of pillar mounts with what looks like the typical radalt sensors on the end The nose clear bit has a small antenna and the raised bits for the forward pointing proddy bits* ready now for drilling and fitting *You know what? I amaze myself with my grasp of greebliedom, I am so.o.o.o.o Full of it? Gercha 😕

perdu
OK let's hope I can do this EX ZA714 does not have the roof mounted rails ahead of the intake filters, either side by the way, does anyone know whether she did get them whilst she was in Green/Grey/Black? (Asking because when she became Helicopter Olive Green she had them aboard) I've left them off but I am expecting some smartass to say "Der, you missed the rails off mate hur hur hur..." It would be nice to know when she got them Just made an undernose Doppler unit to sit just behind the radalt senders Next maybe primer and paint, looks like cockpit interior is dark grey Anyone able to confirm or refute this please? When primed the cockpit frames can have a final groove fill and wet sand There's a few little blemish lines needing over filling but I do not want any white filler showing inside the canopy so colour first, fill bits last We hope 😱
perdu
Details details, tell you what let's have some I admit I get bogged down in the details Lookit here Picture available on t'intynet, if one opposes my use of it please say so and I will pull it immediately The object(s) of our affection at the mo, the spiky sticky out from the front aerials which I imagine also contains speed measuring stuff Pitots and the like no doubt, etc Now the kit offers the items drawn around in here, frankly not impressed Horridus huh? Yes I agree I have been trying to get these done with stretched @John Aero tubes to get a fine enough taper But the Evergreen rod is slightly bent and never wants to flatten out so I dont like them I need to get a very round end with the aerials on it and a very short pitot spike in front, like so I think I might get this with a short round end cap with the antennae across them Time for more experimenting methinks, Albion tube maybe semicircular tiny dome for the cross antennae Here is a view of some of the other little bits and pieces underneath, quite chuffed with the three dimensional Doppler antenna The tape bands are for scribing purposes, not going to go heavily into scribing but it calls for some under there I think
perdu
OK next little greeblie is quite big really, but fits my own definition of the term it is the rear cap for the opening ramp, in use this slides into the space held for it inside the ramp itself The model panel is a fair bit bigger than I needed it, never going to be seen except as a dark grey thing inside a cream coloured hole (?) No I dont know why cream either but... It has needed lots of sihrsc action to get it almost slim enough for the task This is almost good enough for guvmint work Inside the ramp there are three sticky out bits so they needed adding As you can see the cap wasn't intended to be seen, even by Matchbox with all that ejector pin action A massive number considering the lack of pin marks on other parts of the kit, luckily after our lessons in Injecting Plastic 101 by @hendie I have some little recognition of the problems the kit designer has to cope with Here is the end result, the resculpted cap is inside the cream hole in the ramp and the upper closure cover is made ready to attach (It isnt cream in there yet, hang on) Now it is The restructured cap is in the hole now, Gators Grip should ensure that never sees the light of day again And now the cap will be added (Tamiya Green for this one) Viola! This end cover needs painting in a pale tan brown*, looks a bit like rust but I huv me doots that the rear of the ramp on a busy RAF helicopter would have a rusty tin finisher over the ramp I can paint that tomorrow, might be paint time, we'll see * Looks like Paxolin sheeting in two pieces (nothing's easy, each piece is a slightly different colour doh) Do you see the pair of pitot doodahs? I am wondering when to add them, and whether the two whip antennae for each one should go on early or later Problems problems... ciao ev'bod, ciao
