Boeing 747SP model?

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking about trying to build a model of NASA's Sofia airborne infrared telescope.

This amazing instrument is mounted in s modified Boeing 747SP aircraft. These differ from a 'standard' 747-100 in having a shortened body, larger tail fin and a few other minor changes.

Does anyone know if there are any kits of the 747SP available?

Thanks

Authentic Airliners also has one in its catalog, but it is temporarily unavailable. Expensive but worth it.

Note: I have no connection to Authentic Airliners other than as a very satisfied customer.

Eastern Express have announced an Injection moulded SP kit just recently, scheduled for release next year.

I'm glad you put this up Ray, I thought I'd heard something along those lines but wasn't sure. Now I'm sure. :D

No worries Steve, there is a Rumour Monger thread on it. A QANTAS boxing (with Rolls Royce engines) and TWA boxing with (Pratt and Whitney engines) will be first cabs off the rank.
